Update 1/27/11 - The owner has just contacted me to let me know that Bailey is back home! She had been sold to a woman the day after she was stolen. Luckily the woman heard the story and contacted the owners to return the dog.
Pana, IL - When a beloved companion goes missing, it's heart-breaking. When she is stolen, heart-break melds with terror.
The Allen family is in the midst of that sad melding of emotions right now. On Saturday, January 23, their mini-Yorkie was let out for a potty break in her front yard in the 700 block of East 3rd Street.
A man driving an older model, mid-sized dark blue truck with a ladder-type rack pulled up to the front yard and snatched the little dog right in front of Robert and Rebecca Allen's daughter. The dog-snatcher ignored the girls calls for her dog and proceeded to leave.
Now the family is desperately searching for their little friend. The dog's name is Bailey and she is approximately 2 yrs old. Bailey was wearing a red sweater at the time. The sweater has two small stripes - one at the top, and one at the bottom.
Anyone with information about Bailey's whereabouts is asked to phone the Allens at either (217) 820-9538 or (217) 562-3868, or email at badcompany@consolidated.net.
Please take a moment to circulate this information on Bailey. With thousands of eyes searching, perhaps the little dog will be found safely. Her family desperately misses her and is praying for her safe return.

Please everyone, do not let you pets out in the yard without supervision, there are alot of bad people out there that are taking dogs and then when they see flyers that are put up by the owners stating a reward for the dogs return, these people call and say that they found the dog or worse they are sold because small dogs generate big money, please do not let your pets out of your sight, these scams are becoming an epidemic..Keep me posted Penny if this dog gets returned..

This is actually a friend of mine's dog. Bailey is the faithful companion to a 5 yr old little girl who is disabled. The mother was at the door watching Bailey take her potty brake when the guy rolled up snatched her! She's got a pretty good description of the truck and the guy and has informed police. We need everyone's eyes and ears here , cross posting, sharing etc to bring this little girl her friend back!

Thanks for the extra information, Jen. I can't believe someone would be so brazen as to snatch up the dog with a child in the yard AND the mother watching from the door. This world has some nasty people in it, for sure. I hope Bailey is returned, safe and sound.
We can't have fenced front yards in my city so my dogs are always in the fenced backyard but that doesn't mean they couldn't be stolen from that location also. :(

That is just terrible. I do hope that they find the little dog safe and healthy and get this guy arrested. Please keep us posted. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
I contacted the owner of Lost Dogs of Illinois and she contacted Bailey's owner, Bailey is home safe & sound. There was a lady who "bought" the dog, and then she saw the flyer at a Walmart and contacted the owner..Once again, pet owners be very careful letting your pets outside in the yard unsupervised by an adult, dog napping is a growing epidemic, in this troubled economy people are thinking up all kinds of ways to make money, such as stealing someones dog and selling it..
