Designing a treat buffet

Candy bars have been very trendy in the last couple years of wedding planning.  There are several reasons for their recent popularity as they are pretty, fun, easy to pull together and work as both a focal point of the wedding day and a take away favor for guests.

There are lots of great ways to add your personality to your treat station, try some of these great ideas to have a sweet bar that pops:

1.  Single tone candy bar- finding favorite candies in a single color can add a bright splash of color to your wedding.  Use lots of shades and tones of the color to add visual interest.

2.  Creative candy selection- choose a selection of nostalgic candies for a playful way to bring your guests back to their childhood, or for a modern and upscale look select local artisinal candies.  The Candy Store in San Francisco offers great options for whichever style of buffet you choose.

3.  Vessels- choose a variety of sizes and shapes, and try to find items you will use in your home later- apocathary jars can be found in stores like Marshalls and Ross,  at very discounted prices, and will be gorgeous on the mantle after your big day. If you are going for a rustic or vintage look, mix in mason jars of various sizes with the larger containers.   The Candy Store, mentioned above, also rents containers if you do not want to keep them after your big day.

4. Go beyond candy- Choose delicious treats from your favorite local eateries to mix in among the candy.  Think vintage cake stands heaping with a selection of maple bacon apple and monte cristo donuts from Dyamo Donuts.  Mission Pie also make a beautiful addition to any treat bar- serve banana cream for a vintage feel.  Finish the selection with platters of Kara's Cupcakes in s'more for a toasty treat or with mason jars of the delicious cake pops from Teeny Cake - the Olive You olive oil cake is not to be believed!

5.  Offer adorable to-go boxes/bags for guests to take back to their room.  Everyone loves a late night nibble after dancing!

6. Special recipes- serve family recipes such as your grandmother's best lemon bars, or your aunt's special recipe for spiced nuts.  Or if there is nothing directly from your family, see if the pastry chef at your venue makes candies- modern and fresh versions of classic candies such as tootsie rolls are a fun twist for your guests.

The most important part of the dessert bar is keeping it personal and serving up items that add to the overall personality of your wedding.  Enjoy!
