If you haven't played disc golf, or haven't even heard of it. There are several good reasons why you should learn how to play. It is one of the fastest growing sports in America, and many other parts of the world as well. The object is to get from the tee to the basket in the fewest number of throws with your disc. The reasons disc golf is growing so quickly are: it's easy to learn how to play, the cost is very low, it's good exercise, you can play year round, and fun to boot!

The reason disc golf is so easy to learn is you probably already know how to play. Disc golf is played much like ball golf with a Frisbee style disc instead of clubs and a ball. Throwing a disc is something that most people can do with a little practice, unlike hitting a little ball with a club.

The cost to play disc golf is very inexpensive. Most courses are free to play. The ones that you have to pay for are very inexpensive, $3 to $5 to play for the day. The equipment is also very inexpensive. The costs of a disc ranges from $6 to around $15 each, and you can start with as few as 1 disc.

In the Twin Cities the courses run by the three rivers park district. Elm Creek, Highland Hills, and Bryant Lake, will even rent you discs for a very reasonable rate so you can try disc golf without spending any money on buying discs. Those courses do charge a $3 fee to play, but are very well kept.

If you enjoy playing and you get more serious about disc golf, there are many choices of the type of disc to buy that serve different purposes. There are also other things you can get such as a bag made for carrying discs. These are not things you need to start out. As a comparison, you can buy 1 new big name ball golf driver for around $400. That much money would buy you discs and a bag for many years, possible a lifetime.

You will also get out into the fresh air, get some walking exercise, and disc golf is also a lot of fun. There are many city courses around the Twin Cities that are very accessible to everyone, at no charge, and are great courses to try disc golf and see how much fun it is.

I found out about, and started playing disc golf in 1978 when the sport was in its infancy. There was only 1 good course in Minnesota at that time...
