Sunday brunch at Lebanese Taverna: a little different, a lot delicious

Heat wave or not, it is nice to be out of your kitchen and have others prepare a meal for you and your family.  Making it better is dining at Lebanese Taverna enjoying their lovely view of the Baltimore harbor whether dining al fresco waterfront or in the tastefully decorated restaurant at Harbor East.

Susan Gordon, a friend and the marketing director at Lebanese Taverna, invited a handful of media types to come and enjoy their NEW Sunday Brunch, as she described it, Lebanese Dim Sum.  The dim sum reference comes from the 14 mezze plates that are continously brought to your table and you choose the ones you want.  Want more Chicken Shawarma or Baba Ghannouge, no problem they will bring more plates. Each table enjoys the selection of pita bread and hommos. (check out the slide show)   A vegetarian could thrive here quite well.

Lebanese cuisine is a mix of neighboring  countries  of the  Mediterranean  and middle east using garlic, lemon, olive oil (no butter or cream), fresh herbs, spices the likes of sumac, cardamom and thyme.

Along with the fourteen brunch dim sum choices for $14.95 per adult and $6.95 for children 10 or under there is an optional à la carte menu offering selections from chicken kabob (thigh meat, my favorite part of a chicken), Shrimp Arak, Mediterranean Bouillabaisse, Maanek Scramble,  Kibbeh Nayeh and more.

There are dessert offerings to squelch your sweet tooth cravings; Baklawa, done a bit different  with pistachios and pomegranate molasses (dibs moran) and Taverna style awamat, fried donuts in honey-saffron syrup along with other sweet offerings..

Drinks and mezze go hand-and-hand like the Spanish tapas. Lebanese Taverna offers wines by the glass, eye opening cocktails from Byzantine Bloody, Bottomless Classic Bloody Mary, Bellini, Mimosa, Orange Crush to the non alcoholic refreshers like Pomenade, Sweet Mango Lassi and hot beverages of Arabic Tea with Cardamom, Espresso, Turkish Coffee temper your thirst.

The doors open at 11:30 a.m. for Sunday brunch at Lebanese Taverna and last until 3 p.m.  There are numerous Lebanese Tavernas in Maryland and Washington DC and at this time, only Baltimore is offering the Sunday Brunch. Lebanese Taverna describes the Sunday brunch, “A continuous offering of our most loved dishes served table side with à la carte selections to complement your experience.”

A total of 14 items are part of the Sunday Brunch buffet that comes to you. Here is a description of a selection of the dishes.
