Snowbound….what you gonna cook?
First question is do you have power, but if you don’t you aren’t reading this any hooooo. Hope you all faired safely after the treacherous snow storm(whiteout) of last night. That you are safely home and you didn’t spend hours upon hours in your car locked on the Jones Falls Express or any other roadway.
At this point, I’m land locked with downed wires on my car. Note the picture. Amazingly, we have power and cable (TV, internet & phone) – considering the police cut the regular phone line so it wasn’t hanging on Milford Mill Road.
Snow Storms = food induced comas
What are you going to make today? Personally, I think meat knishes and egg noodles to go with some turkey stock I have. Baking, well today is national chocolate cake day (see Richard Gorelick’s story) but I’m not sure I have all the ingredients for a chocolate cake.
As in all snow storms, a big breakfast for the husband since he’s shoveling the snow. Unfortunately I still have to work since my office is at home - the cooking and baking will be intermittent.
What is on your cooking agenda and/or baking agenda today? Share, send photos – recipes – let’s have some fun.
FYI – Keep your eyes on my column about restaurant week extensions – I keep updating it with other restaurants. Blue Hill is supposedly extending restaurant week a day for however many inches of snow we received.

I have turkey stock as well. Don't have noodles so I'm going to hand make noodles.
I just finished making oven fried chicken, grilled asparagus, sweet potatoes, cornbread and German chocolate cake for National Chocolate cake day. Article is coming soon.
I was off to a good start. Pasta dough made, meet for knishes thawed and then hubby wanted to go out. I love German Chocolate Cake...whose recipe did you use?
Duncan Hines and Pillsbury was my recipe. I was lazy and needed a short cut. I made everything else from scratch. I would love your ideal German Chocolate cake recipe and where did you and the husband go last night? You were off to an excellent start for your meal but you deserve the break.
He was insistent to go out to our local Chinese eatery but they were closed. Not sure if they were lacking power or just closed. Went to Mari Luna Latin. Today is knishes and the noodles
Got something to say?
