Da Mimmo Restaurant’s email arrived announcing the sale of these great looking aprons which have beautiful graphics and the authentic Limoncello recipe in Italian and English. Check out the photo and try to focus on the apron. The colors of the apron are those of the Italian ceramics, rich yellows and deep greens. A clever craft person could take the apron and make an interesting wall hanging for a kitchen dining space or deck.
Inspiration to write this story is twofold. First is the limoncello still in my freezer and available for a snap and most importantly was Mary Ann Cricchio’s handsome son, Mimmo, wearing the apron on the shores of the Amalfi coast. Hard to believe he’s grown up already, don’t you remember the picture of him around six years old in the chef’s outfit. He’s in college now! Where does the time go?
The skinny on Limoncello
Limoncello for those who don’t know is a chilled after dinner drink which originated in Southern Italy where the lemons are huge and aromatic thanks in measure to the volcanic soil. Lemon and orange trees are numerous in Sorrento’s main piazza as well as other Italian cities along the Amalfi coast. Limoncello isn’t just for after dinner, a shot of that in your ice tea making it really grown up, mixed with sparkling wine or top ice cream or fruit - anywhere lemon goes limoncello can go. Try basting your seafood on the grill with the limoncello.
