In and out $18 three plate summer lunch at The Capital Grille

Let me just start off with two words, lobster roll.  The lobster roll is one of three of the sandwich course plate offerings with The Capital Grille’s summer lunch special available Monday through Fridays from 11:30 to 3 p.m.  The three plates summer lunch special offers three options in soup/salad, sandwiches and sides for a mere $18 – check out the photo slide show.

Value versus dollar winner - $18

For the downtown worker who is so tired of the everyday humdrum, poor quality, over priced lunches this is a refreshing change – top end, quality choices with the promise of having you in and out in forty five minutes.  Choose New England Clam Chowder, Roasted Corn Bisque or Field Greens as one of your three starter plates.  The three sandwich plate choices tantalize with the Lobster Roll, Tenderloin Sandwiches or the Annatto Rubbed Mahi with Tortillas. Pick from the watermelon, tomato and feta side, truffle fries or seasonal vegetable – you can’t lose.

You don’t have to be an office worker to enjoy The Capital Grille’s summer plates lunch special.  The husband was on vacation this week so we rode the subway downtown.  It was a gorgeous day and many were enjoying The Capital Grille’s al fresco dining overlooking Baltimore’s harbor.  We decided to enjoy the atmosphere of the rich, clubby appointed interior.

Our choices and notes

First and foremost, oooh, how I love The Capital Grille’s bread basket cracker with sweet butter – I’m obsessive.  Our server, Mark Wiedorfer,  brought our ice teas with a miniature carafe of simple syrup to sweeten the teas.  It wasn’t hard to make our choices but the agreement is in place that we must taste each other’s plates – it is an unspoken rule.  Check out the slide show.

Soup/Salad

New England Clam Chowder – rich, accompanied with oyster crackers – the husband’s choice

Sweet Corn Bisque – topped with a corn relish of roasted corn, poblano peppers, red onion, parsley and chili oil for a touch of the back of the throat heat.

Sandwiches

Mini Tenderloin Sandwiches - on brioche rolls with Boursin cheese and sautéed wild  mushrooms – the tenderloin cooked to your temperature – an umami rich offering – the husband’s choice

Lobster Roll - on a toasted bun so filled with lobster meat that I couldn’t close the sandwich that I used a knife and fork.  The lobster pieces were large, kissed with citrus and a peck of cayenne.

Sides

Truffle Fries – redolent of truffle, topped with Grana Padano cheese and parsley. No salt needed with the Grana Padano.  The husband’s choice which he became extremely possessive and only allowed me one fry.

Watermelon, Tomato, Feta Cheese mélange – cool, sweet, refreshing and in my honest opinion the perfect accompaniment to the lobster roll.

When I queried the husband about if he came back would he order the same dishes and he said yes but it would be tough when it came to the sides, he loved both the truffle fries and the watermelon, tomato, feta cheese mélange otherwise we both would re-order what we enjoyed today.

Portions were sufficient that you feel satisfied but not so stuffed that you are uncomfortable.  A special thank you to The Capital Grille allowing the husband and I to come in for a sneak eat of the $18 three plate summer lunch special.  There are many other lunch time offerings – here is their menu
