H.R. 358 would deny emergency abortions, allow women to die

The GOP has declared war on a woman's right to reproductive freedom, and it is getting ugly. A new bill introduced by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), H.R. 358 or the "Protect Life Act," would allow a hospital the right to refuse to perform emergency abortions when necessary to save the life of the woman.

Rather than following through with their campaign pledge to create jobs and improve the economy House Republicans have been obsessed with women's sexual health and reproductive freedom since winning a majority in the House last November. The radical right of the GOP has declared a war on women, a war on Roe v. Wade.

Earlier this week House Republicans were caught trying to redefine rape in order to force poor victims of rape and incest to carry unwanted pregnancies to term. Now they are trying to deny women access to emergency abortions when their life is at risk.

Protecting Life? New Bill Says Its OK to Let Women Die
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America released the following statement Thursday afternoon:
“Anti-choice politicians have gone from redefining rape to denying abortion care to women who will die without it. When it comes to attacking women’s freedom and privacy, these politicians know no bounds. This debate is just getting started. Any member of Congress who has signed his or her name to this agenda must be held accountable for such extreme attacks against women’s reproductive-health services.”

The implications of the bill are mind boggling, and border on the absurd. Theoretically a hospital could value a fertilized egg above the life of a woman. As the law is written now, a hospital cannot refuse to treat anyone in need of life saving care. H.R. 358 would make an exception, and would allow a pregnant woman to die rather than perform a life saving abortion.
The bills name is a misnomer. The "Protect Life Act" constitutes a threat to women's lives, and represents a step backwards in civil rights for women.

Typical liberals, lying through their degenerate teeth. Man you guys are disgusting liars.

In the ACTUAL Bill ... not the BS lies liberals tell.

    except--

    (A) if the pregnancy occurred because the pregnant female was the subject of an act of forcible *ape or, if a minor, an act of in*est; or

    (B) in the case where a pregnant female suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the female in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.

AND ... They may buy coverage as long as ...

    so long as ...

    (A) such coverage or plan is paid for entirely using only funds not authorized or appropriated by this Act; and

    (B) such coverage or plan is not purchased using--

Your familiar with the concept of drafts I hope? You are posting an earlier draft not the latest. Indeed the current version removes the force able rape provision and tacks on a bunch of other stuff including the provision in the article.

    So thank you come again.

You are quoting from Section 2, subsection (4) of the act. This article concerns the implications of Section 2, subsections (5-D) and (6), and the implications of them.

The stuff you're quoting from concerns what funds may or may not be used to pay for induced abortion. The stuff this article is about is whether a hospital may choose to flat-out refuse to induce abortion under any circumstance, even in the case of it being necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman. This act adds an exemption to the general rule that hospitals must provide life-saving care to say that "ordinarily, you'd be in trouble if you just let people die, but if it's pregnant women who died because you wouldn't induce an abortion, that's okay and we'll keep the Feds off your back" (yes, that's a paraphrase, but I think it captures the spirit of the language in subsection (6))

In other NON BS liberal words. They can't refuse her if it's going to hurt her . AND ... they can still get insurance coverage if ONLY other animals pay for it. NO money from humans should go towards it.

Look's like these libs just don't want their lifestyle cramped. If they want to use abortion as a birth control method, they sure don't want someone telling them they can't. They don't give a rip that they are committing MURDER!

So you would want to force a little girl who has been raped or has been a victim of incest to go through a traumatic and damaging pregancy, and be forced to live with a reminder of that for the rest of their lives? Okay then.

I prefer to be in control of my own body, and if I don't want to have children, I shouldn't be forced to.

What don't you people understand about life threatening? Do you think there are NO life threatening pregnancies? Let the woman die? Well, how about then the baby has NO CHANCE of survival but the woman will die too if she is not treated? Have you every heard of tubal pregnancies? When was the last time you heard of a baby being delivered from a fallopian tube? If that pregnancy is not removed, aborted so to speak, the tube WILL burst (DEAD BABY) and the woman will have massive internal bleeding which will cause death if not treated immediately. So you would let her die too, all for the sake of a baby which has ZERO chance of surviving anyway? Murder? Well, isn't letting that woman die too MURDER?
