After the Dallas Cowboys chose WR Dez Bryant with the first pick in the 2010 draft, Patrick Crayton could see the writing on he wall.    He asked for his release after the draft, and going into training camp, he jokingly referred to himself as an insurance policy after an injury to Bryant took the wide receiver out of preseason.

It seems Crayton will finally get his wish.  The Cowboys are finalizing a deal that will send the 31-year-old receiver to the San Diego Chargers for a late round pick in the 2011 draft.   Crayton, whose best season was spent snagging 50 balls for 697 yards and 7 TDs in 2007, has been a solid option for Tony Romo since he took over at quarterback.   But with a $2 million salary among a crowded group of receivers, Crayton became expendable.

The Cowboys also traded offensive tackle Pat McQuistan to the Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed pick.   A fifth-year player, McQuistan became expendable after the play of rookie Sam Young, who showed the ability to play on the NFL level before being sidelined with an injury.
