An Arizona rancher who was a fixture in the community was brutally murdered by an alleged illegal immigrant on Saturday night. The Arizona/Mexico border rancher, Robert Krentz met a cruel end after he went out in the middle of the night to investigate strange noises.

The assassin killed Krentz and his dog before scampering across the Mexican border, according to authorities on the scene. As of late Sunday night Border Patrol trackers were unable to catch the murderer, but will continue the search throughout the night.

As word of the murder spread on Sunday, former Congressman and border activist Tom Tancredo called for Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano to “reject politics, do the right thing and send the National Guard to the border.”

Tancredo spent the day with distraught family members looking for answers.

"As Governor of Arizona, Napolitano deployed the National Guard to help the Border Patrol do its job. Yesterday's murder of rancher Rob Krentz on his own land 25 miles from the Mexican border makes it clear that that job remains unfinished," said Tancredo. "Three days ago, Napolitano told an audience at Arizona State University that the border is more secure than ever," said Tancredo. "I challenge her-no I dare her to come to this community and try to sell that lie. The residents here know better."

With the health care debate over, many in the Obama Administration are eying the next prize – amnesty.

"Now that Obama and Napolitano are talking openly of pushing a new amnesty program, the border invasion has resumed. Mexicans and residents in Guatemala and Honduras read those stories," Tancredo said. "If Congress takes up an amnesty bill, the flood across the border will be unstoppable."

Tancredo said Border Patrol in the Arizona region confirmed a 25 percent increase in apprehensions over the past three months of which 20 percent of those caught have criminal backgrounds.

“Ranchers and residents all along our southern border with Mexico have been living in fear for years as more armed smugglers and criminals cross their property on their illegal journeys north,” said Jeff Schwilk founder of the San Diego Minutemen. “The murder of Rob Krentz was inevitable as the drug war in Mexico spills across our border. But it could easily have been prevented. Mr. Krentz's blood is on the hands of Barack Obama, George Bush, Harry Reid, John McCain and all the other traitors in Washington who have refused to secure our southern border after all these years.”

According to the Gila Courier, this crime follows the hissy fit thrown by Tucson area State Representative Daniel Patterson. “Rep. Patterson berated Sen. Pearce over the claim that border violence was crossing over into the U.S. Pending confirmation of the facts in the case, Rep. Patterson may owe Sen. Pearce an apology. He may also want to say a prayer for the Krentz family.”

“It is frustrating to listen to the Democrats whine about the hostile political climate while they continue to do nothing about real violence along the border. I guess for the liberal media, a broken window is more important than a man’s life,” said Ryan of the Gila Courier.

Area border watch groups are equally angry. The Patriot Coalition has been monitoring the Tucson sector for a number of years and has witnessed an increase in the violence residents are subjected to on a daily basis.

“Lawmakers in Washington D.C. have made statements that the borders are secure and they’ve done no such thing,” explains Al Garza vice president of Patriot Coalition. “It’s time to deploy the National Guard along the border and I’m not talking about the office personnel. We need armed guards protecting our ranchers who live along the border.”

It doesn’t look like Washington D.C. got the memo.

“Last March, this administration took decisive action to combat transnational crime and drug-related violence along the Southwest border to help ensure the security of both the United States and Mexico,” said Secretary Napolitano in a press release out on Friday. “Over the past year, our unprecedented cooperation with the Mexican government and sustained security efforts along the border has resulted in major progress in combating the ruthless cartels that threaten the safety of both our nations.”

However, in the last couple of weeks the U.S. has lost three American Consulate employees in Juarez, Mexico and now an Arizona rancher is the latest victim of the out-of-control U.S./Mexico border.

Garza, who is Hispanic, insists lawmaker’s care more about the cheap labor that invites immigrants to make the dangerous trek into America. As illegal border crossers pass through the deserts they leave a wake of damage on private property.

“Local residents are heartsick about the murder of one of their own,” Garza said. “The money that is spent in the Middle East could go a long way in securing our southern borders.”

The discussion about comprehensive solutions is over, according to Garza. “Words are no longer necessary.

The discussion is now human rights and border security. The discussion must be centered on American citizen's human rights and our government's unwillingness to secure our southern border. It is not the government's inability to secure the border, but it's the government's desire to continue to allow the United States to be a safety valve supporting Mexico's desire to remain a peon state.”

Although the fatal shot that killed Rob Krentz was fired by an illegal immigrant, there is no doubt that the United States government is complicit in this horrendous crime.

Local authorities are also concerned about the possible retribution towards illegals in the coming days. Border Patrol agents and Sheriff’s deputies are working to cool the tempers of those who face the onslaught of illegal aliens on a daily basis.

“It’s hard to tell someone to ask questions first when illegals arrive at the door. Now they must be concerned about their lives after the horrific murder,” said one resident who did not want her name revealed. “I went to the region today and I broke down, it’s just awful.”

As far as the search for the perpetrators of the crime, Border Patrol in the Tucson Sector said they are assisting the Cochise Sheriff’s Department who is the lead law enforcement agency, with manpower as well as resources. They did confirm the murder of Robert Krentz happened sometime on Saturday night and Border Patrol trackers were following a trail headed south toward the Mexico border.

This should wake American up to the fact that La Raza (A Hispanic activist group) continues to mock our laws, say Garza. Nowhere is this more evident than the lawsuit against another Arizona resident Roger Barrett.

The Arizona rancher waged a 10-year battle against thousands of illegal immigrants who crossed into the country and onto his property. When Barrett stopped 16 Mexican Nationals at gunpoint on his land, the ACLU stepped in and brought a civil rights lawsuit against the Arizona rancher.

Local law enforcement officers refer to Barrett’s ranch as the “avenue of choice” for illegal immigrants to enter America illegally. Barrett put up with property damage, death of livestock and numerous home invasions.

The ACLU claimed in the lawsuit against Barrett that he inflicted emotional distress by holding the migrants at gunpoint, threatening to turn his dog loose and shooting anyone who attempted to escape.

The Arizona rancher lost his case.

The jury awarded $7,500 each in actual damages to two of the plaintiffs for the infliction of emotional distress and $1,400 each to two others for assault for a total of $78,000. Barnett’s attorney called it an 80 percent victory.

The illegal immigrants, five women and 11 men, had sought $32 million in actual and punitive damages - $2 million each - in the lawsuit brought by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF).

It’s worth pointing out that one of the illegal immigrants that filed the lawsuit was a convicted felon who was deported from the U.S. after he was charged and found guilty of possession of a controlled substance for sale and deported to his home country.

The escalating violence along the borders must end. The aroma of amnesty is now fueling an already out-of-control invasion from the South. The tens of thousands crossing the borders illegally from the South are now engaging in criminal behavior.

Garza says his group “is calling on all patriots to remain calm until headquarters has had enough time to probe, evaluate and strategize the senseless murder of another American citizen, one of their own.”

I agree with Garza and Schwilk - this is an outrage and Juan McCain definitely has blood on his hands. All he has done here the past 5 years is lobby for illegal aliens and legalization of criminals. Sad that Mr. Krentz had to pay the ultimate price for Congress and the President's failures to carry out their oaths of office - protect and defend the citizens of America. Makes you wonder how many of them are profiting off of the Mexican drug trade?

I hate to say it, but this may launch a civil uprising in Arizona. Everyone I know has had it with this treason from our elected officials.

Time to take care of business at the border. We walk through x-ray machines at airports and yet we have wide open borders that allow criminals to walk right in and murder our citizens.

I demand the National Guard be sent to the border immediately and I demand President Obama acknowledge and address this crisis today. Stop pandering to foreign interests and protect the citizens.

Be careful the Government is rounding up all the Right-Wing radicals in the Midwest as a show of Democratic Party control of the country. They are already earmarking in the press what their do list is. Tax revolters, Tea Party members, Anti-Gov't comments, Constitutionalists, Militia members and Texas is being singled out in the press as most extreme...In Indiana Press, Seattle Press, and Detroit Press.

They are setting the stage for armed action against all these. One of the categories was people who advocate Civil War or secession. I agree highly with both Posters below me. But you have to understand John McCain will stand with the US Military against his own Arizona neighbors and citizens...COUNT ON IT!!

The message is clear. They see you and men like Robert Krantz as the enemy.

The danger on the border is not new. Why in the world would an experienced rancher go out in the middle of the night unarmed and alone?

This is certainly a tragedy, but it is a matter of personal responsibility, not an excuse to give the federal or state government MORE power over our lives.

This is very very sad. To think it is against the law to corral these people and hold them until the proper authorities show up. In the US there is no proper authority. It is time that we the people stand up and remove the abusive powers to be, and take control of our lives and our families lives. This was done as a warning, a warning to AMERICA TO CLOSE ITS EYES OR ELSE. Time to send the warning back POP GOES THE WIEVEL. Maybe we should have the members of Congress move to the border, let it be their families that get raped and murdered. Give them a Quran to boot

First, I want to reply to MamaLiberty to let be known that Mr. Krentz was armed...he did not have the opportunity to use his gun. He was protecting his family by going out and not being irresponsible
Secondly, I agree with Julie R and Arizona Citizen and I suggest that we all take the time to become more active in our communities to ensure that we are being heard and to enlist the likes of like minded Americans to begin speaking out and work towards ending the individuals in office more concerned with their agenda's than the people they represent. I am tired of contacting my local representatives and being told that they are voting what they stand for but never do they say that they are listening to the people. This is an injustice to every citizen of America and we need to speak loud and clear to regain our rights as citizens here in America.
Let's pray for the Krentz family and our nation.

Which means the Leadership in either party are not what We The People call 'Patriotic'. Your pandering to non patriotic interest groups has come to an end. You know who you are, you are running scared. Liberals are so dumb. You think you have a say so in our future. It is time to say good buy to the Liberal leaning leadership along with La Rasa and the ACLU. You think you represent The People. You are so inept that the only thing you can do is screw-up. At the highest levels. You have energized the Patriot Movement and you can't stop it. Even if You All turn around and support the re-sergance of Patriotism it is too late for YOU. My respects to the Krentz Family. Many US citizens live along the CA/Mexico Border on farm land where migrants/crime exists. Many grew up in cities amongst immigrant Irish, Italian, mafias. Many beautiful seaside Mexican retirement communities are filled with U.S. citizens who grew up all over our country. We see something first hand, everyday that you might not.

In the past 50 years some of our own U.S. cities and their crime rates - crime that we know were done by boyfriends, fathers, brothers, neighbors - were pretty close to TJ.

Terrible crimes happen everyday in our community - performed by our own. We need to secure both our northern and southern borders, but we must not become isolationists and allow the few bad apples to ruin the free passage of those of use who are peaceful humans. Many Mexicans come here with proper documents, spend money, and go home everyday. I think about this everyday. Is putting our military and a fence around our country the only answer?

    Annie52,

America is tired of hearing this polyanna B*llS**t! We're tired of the "we're all really just the same", "can't we all just get along". You know what Annie....America is NOT like Mexico. We're sick of this Liberal equivalency crap! Where are all the murders of us citizens from Canadians??? The Northern and Southern borders are completely different...because the people in Canada are completely different from the Mexicans.

I live 25 minutes from the Mexican border and can tell you there is NO RESPECT from Mexicans toward this country...NADA. They'll spend their money here, but look down their nose at our laws and our people. You aren't the only one with a local Border perspective. What isn't being reported are the KIDNAPPINGS that are happening in US cities: Phoenix, El Paso and McAllen Texas recently, but there are dozens of others. THAT doesn't even make it to the news as far as Oklahoma.

Folks on the border need to get the True picture out to the rest of the US.

I'm curious.....how many murders have been committed in Arizona in the past year? How many were rather heinous? Now, out of that many, how many have been committed by illegals? And, how many citizen murderers have fled to Mexico to escape justice - regardless of where committed? So, why are you making this one act by an illegal sound like something ALL illegals would do? Are you as harsh about the other murders committed? I'd really like to see you answer this post.

Why are you protecting serial criminals? Here Illegally---a crime (1). Having a hand gun while a criminal---Crime (2). Robbing, rapeing and/or (in this case) murdering--- Crime (3).

We had a cattle ranch 20 miles from Nogalas. Routinely, illegals would come down the railroad track & leave a long trail of human waste & trash, tear down fenses, release or kill cattle & steal trucks, tack & equipment but then you defend protect your property-NOT now. They grew imboldened by our government's unwillingness to enforce the laws. We finally sold out after two elderly widows down the road were robbed & killed by illegal aliens & that was 20 years ago. It has escalated greatly as amnesty looms. SW USA schools are seeing a huge surge in disorientated Mexican children who cannot speak English. While they are innocent bystanders in their parent's crimes of trespass & forgeries, taxpayers are forced to subsidize their illegal actions. Once here, the parent produces more "anchor" babies to access a teasure trove of ill gotten benefits & then play the victim game while citizens become endentured servants to PC/multi-culturism. 2/3 of births are now to illegal moms

Some facts in this case... Mr. Krentz was out checking water line and fencing on the land Krentz's family has ranched since 1907. Krentz advised his brother that he observed an "illegal alien who appeared to be distressed" on the radio earlier Saturday, and the area of the slaying is a known smuggling corridor. His body was located before midnight Saturday on his 35,000-acre ranch as a result of an extensive search. The day before the shooting, the victim's brother, Phil Krentz, reported drug smuggling activity on the ranch to the Border Patrol.
Agents found 290 pounds of marijuana on the ranch and followed tracks to where they found and arrested eight illegal immigrants.
Krentz was armed & The ATV still had its lights on and the engine running when authorities found it. (rulng out theft as intent) His dog was also shot and killed.

Foot tracks were identified and followed approximately 20 miles south to the Mexico border by sheriff's deputies, U.S. Border Patrol trackers and Department of Corrections dog chase teams. Ranchers in this area have exhausted all options & contacted their local representatives, law enforcement, & border patrol with no relief. This is the United States of America. The victim and other ranchers in this area are US CITIZENS who are forced to carry wapons while on their own property for their peronal safety & that of their families. Illegal drug and human smugglers are not peaceful humans "just trying to make a better life, do not spend money or cross at designated border crossing loctions. There are two sepeate issus here. Diversity is not the problem, illegal passage is! America's legal citizens are diverse! People need to think about facts not react based on ignorance and racist agendas. This is not Liberal vs Conservative. Now-when we shout thoughtless things like 'diversity is mass destruction' we ruin the cogent point that illegal passage is the problem! Of course we have violence among some of our own citizens which we must also attend to, but we know where they live because they are citizens, and deal with that legally. When politicians passively permit illegal activity to continue, what can we say about their complicit behavior? Tancredo is correct! Hope he runs again next election.

I grew up on the border near Douglas and I have met the Krentz family in the past. This situation just absolutely breaks my heart. What people in other parts of the US need to understand is that Robert Krentz was no different from a construction worker in New York City, or a shop owner in Los Angeles. He was a decent man who worked hard to support his family and to continue living the dream that his grandparents had when they settled in the San Bernadino Valley a century ago. Back when Pancho Villa was raiding the border in the early 1900s, the US Government sent army general John Pershing and his calvary to the border, and at one point he mounted an armed expedition into Mexico to find Villa and bring him to justice. They didn't catch Villa, but the operation sent a powerful message to Mexico and its people: The US was not going to sit back and tolerate attacks on its soil or on its citizens. The US government today is a weak, morally bankrupt institution. Shame on them.

Whether or not the killer was illegal has nothing to do with this story. He could have had a green card, for all we know. The point that everyone seems to miss is that the killing of Robert Krentz was a professional hit of the sort that occurs dozens of times a day in Mexico. Why is nobody looking at this event for what it was?

I'm a Gringo with three ranches in Baja, MX, and I've seen this a hundred times in the news there. It was a retaliatory hit of a family member of another man (the rancher's brother) who had brought about a drug bust and arrest the previous day. It's the standard operating procedure known to every Mexican rancher. "Don't mess with them and they won't mess with you." It's understood that if you give them any reason to suspect that you're reporting or meddling with their affairs, you can count on something happening not to yourself, but to a family member.

I am just wondering if anyone else thinks that the lawyers who represented and won the punitive awards for the illegal immigrants, five women and 11 men should be tried for treason! How dare they. Those people crossed onto PRIVATE PROPERTY! Last I checked, you had the right to defend your property.. but now this man has to pay these people, who shouldnt have been here in the first place? Holy shnikies. When is someone going to remember they are AMERICAN and do something to stop this nonsense! Come here, live the life, but do it legally!!!!

those who continue the new american slave trade, count on emotional reactions to place their inaction on higher moral ground. What's needed is a calculated response. One that takes care of the problem.

I find it interesting that Mexicans want to take over the southwest. And for what reason? They can't even run Mexico. What a joke. It wouldn't be long before the southwest would be another third world county just like Mexico. Their politicians are as corrupt at you will ever find. And Mexicans call Americans racist! What does Mexico do to illegal immigrants coming through their country from South America? Huh...what about it you Mexican racist. Why don't you go back to your own country and help change the government. Naw America, that's too much work. We would rather destroy America like the country where we came from.

quien mato a mr krentz? No one saw a thing, right? Then is irrevalent to say it was an illegal, right? yet I can tell you that the authorities are scare to loose their lives for the money they get to so their job, is easy to just lay back and let people cross the boder and the drugs into the USA. police, boder agents, deputies, and even the nationalguard are not trained to do the job they only put weekends on their trainning if you can call it a trainning. these people are scared! no one is going to do a thing about it they pee in their pants when they hear a shot they run and hide, see it is a good thing just keep drawing your money and relax that is all you can do and live a long live. I am going to do the same thing live and let live. God Bless you, and good luck. just go and collect your check and spend it. we pay your salaries anyway, as a citizen I am not going to blame you for that.
