In a curious twist to the Gunwalker scandal, or 'Operation Fast and Furious,' sources who have contact with Mexican drug cartels say that the types of guns sent to the cartels by the Feds in the ATF are themselves the 'smoking gun' which indicate malevolent intent on the part of the U.S. Government..
This raises a central question that goes to the very heart of Gunwalker--why would the federal government supply over 2000 guns to the cartels when those guns either were not even wanted or could be purchased on the black market for far less money than what was spent buying them in U.S. gun stores?
In answer to that question it is vital to understand the mindset of Barack Obama going as far back as his time spent in the Illinois legislature.
Obama has always been fundamentally opposed to the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In 1996 he filled out a candidate questionnaire while running for the Illinois Senate stating that he supported laws that ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns--the weapon of choice for most Americans when it comes to self-defense.
While serving as an Illinois State Senator, Obama also opposed a bill that would allow citizens to protect themselves with handguns against home invasions. The bill was approved, but Obama voted no to the right of citizens to protect themselves in their own homes.
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Obama frequently lambasted 'unscrupulous gun dealers,' setting up a false boogy man which then had to be shot down by his trumped up rhetoric that essentially blamed gun store owners for inner city 'gun violence,' knowing full well that most criminals do not get their guns through legitimate means but illegally on the streets through the black market.
But according to Pajamas Media, the most tell-tale sign of all that Obama was intent on destroying the right of citizens to self-defense with firearms was his involvement with the far-Left anti-gun organization called The Joyce Foundation. Obama served as a director of the organization from 1996-2004.
Pajamas Media states the following concerning Obama's tenure with the group:
Most damningly, Obama was a director of the far-left Joyce Foundation from 1996-2004, when the group plotted to undermine the Second Amendment:
During Obama’s tenure, the Joyce Foundation board planned and implemented a program targeting the Supreme Court. The work began five years into Obama’s directorship, when the Foundation had experience in turning its millions into anti-gun “grassroots” organizations, but none at converting cash into legal scholarship.
The plan’s objective was bold: the judicial obliteration of the Second Amendment.
Joyce’s directors found a vulnerable point. When judges cannot rely upon past decisions, they sometimes turn to law review articles. Law reviews are impartial, and famed for meticulous cite-checking. They are also produced on a shoestring. Authors of articles receive no compensation; editors are law students who work for a tiny stipend.
The plot ultimately failed, but the die was cast; Obama showed his intent to undermine U.S. gun laws, whether ethically or otherwise.
And herein lies the 'smoking gun' within the smoking guns of the Gunwalker scandal. The fact that Fast and Furious was a plot, an illegal scheme, to pad statistics concerning U.S. guns in Mexico is underscored by the types of weapons the federal government sold to the drug cartels. Most were AK-pattern rifles and pistols, to which anti-gun forces commonly refer as 'assault weapons.' These guns can be bought much more cheaply on the black market than in gun stores. And the cartels can purchase the more powerful M-16 and M-4 rifles from deserting Mexican military personnel at a cost that is significantly less than it costs to purchase AK-type weapons at gun stores in the U.S.
Further, the cartels seem to prefer a firearm known as 'the cop killer' due to its use by criminals in the U.S. to kill police officers. The pistol comes with a magazine that carries 20 rounds, and the ammo it uses can pierce soft body armor. This gun, as is the case with the AK-pattern guns, is one of the firearms targeted for bans by anti-gun groups. These guns were also sent to the cartels by the Feds.
Yet another controversial weapon that the Feds made sure the cartels possessed is the powerful 50 BMG. The cartels like the Barrett for it symbolic, 'status symbol' significance--it is large, physically impressive, and creates a sense of foreboding on the part of opposing forces who must stare it in the face. But the cartels do not want many of them. They are bulky, heavy, and hard to transport. Yet the Feds made sure that large quantities of these guns flowed southward to the cartels.
As the Pajamas Media report observes,
Perhaps it should not be surprising that every one of the Fast and Furious weapons are among those that gun prohibitionists like the Joyce Foundation, Violence Policy Center, and Brady Campaign have tried to have banned.
Attorney General Eric Holder, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and President Obama have all stated they would like to see the sales of these weapons to civilians either heavily restricted or banned outright.
So: Is it plausible that Operation Fast and Furious just happened to focus on selling the very weapons anti-gun groups want to ban south of the border with the intent that they would be used to commit murder? Knowing that cartels can either get such weapons at lower cost and less risk in Mexico, or don’t need them at all?
The plausibility of such an hypothesis grows stronger by the day. Why else would the federal government feed thousands of weapons to drug cartels at retail U.S. prices, when those weapons were either not desired or could be bought at much cheaper prices on the black market?
Gun bans and gun control is the answer, even if the 'collateral damage' would be hundreds of persons murdered in order to accomplish that ultimate goal.
And that is what makes the Gunwalker scandal the most hideous and dangerous political scandal in the history of the Republic.
