A breaking news report from The Borderland Beat indicates that Mexico is seeking the extradition of 'Gunwalkers'--those suspected of providing U.S. guns to drug cartels.
According to the report, Mexican Attorney General Marisela Morales is asking the United States to extradite six suspects who are accused of providing firearms to the cartels in Mexico.
While Morales did not mention the 'Project Gunwalker' (Operation Fast and Furious) scandal by name, she indicated to Congress that the U.S. is holding 6 suspects--3 in Texas and 3 in California--who are accused of participating in a plot to arm Mexican drug cartels with guns from the United States.
However, in a video of Morales' statement provided by The Borderland Beat and posted in the top left corner of this article, the Mexican Attorney-General does, indeed, appear to be talking specifically about the Fast and Furious scandal.
The scandal involving ATF agents and straw purchasers who walked thousands of U.S. guns into Mexico as part of an illegal, covert operation implemented by the Obama Administration was one in which the Mexican government was left totally in the dark. This is in stark contrast to the 'Gunrunning' and 'Wide Receiver' covert operations under the Bush Administration, which were conducted with the full knowledge and cooperation of the Mexican government in an attempt to catch drug cartel criminals.
Further, Morales indicated that Mexico is holding 2 U.S. citizens who are facing charges similar to those with which the 6 her government is seeking are charged.
Attempts to identify the 6 suspects that Mexico wants extradited were unsuccessful.
