Live music preview: Local pianist Reuel to perform at Reagan Day Gala

A Reagan Day Gala event has been organized to honor Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott Tuesday at the AT&T Center on the University of Texas campus with pianist, Reuel Meditz performing for guests. Senatorial candidate, Ted Cruz and Justice Jeff Rose will offer tributes to AG Abbott who is a likely candidate in the next election for Governor of Texas. A VIP reception at 6p.m. will be followed by dinner at 7p.m.and a silent auction.

Reuel plays and composes improvisational classical piano pieces in a pleasing style that had music fans filling the Four Seasons Austin's Trio bar late last year for an event. During the Gala Tuesday, the musician will play a custom-built piano while wearing a Michael Jackson-inspired ensemble (see slideshow on left) similar to what the singer wore to the White House before his untimely death.

Michael Barnes's Austin-American Statesman article on Reuel last year quoted him on his writing process:

"I create pieces on the fly as if dreaming," he says. "I can tap into that subconscious state while playing, like a lucid musical dream."...."Like Danny Elfman, I improvise as I watch the movie, then score it,"
