Funny Video: What happens when you microwave a box of wine? Kitchen remodeling (with video)

Wouldn't this look much better in a microwave?  Of course it would.

For anyone that's ever wondered what would happen if you were to microwave a box of wine (and who hasn't, really?), there's today's "Funny Video of The Day", an epic fail that answers that oft-pondered question.  There's not really much to add to this one, folks: just keep on reading for the FAIL, my gentle Examiner readers...

Comedy Examiner reader "Sue F." just sent this one in, and it made an otherwise slow, boring news day just a little bit brighter.  In the video below, we have all our questions about microwaving wine answered.  Questions like, "Should I do this?" and "Who needs a microwave, anyway?"

Well, what are you waiting for?  FAIL is just a click of the mouse away, my precious snowflakes:

And that's why you should always use a toaster when heating wine.  What kind of a moron uses a microwave?  There's no shortage to these sorts of videos online, folks, so you can rest assured that (on slow news days) we'll be bringing you only the finest in kitchen appliance destruction videos in the coming weeks.  If, like reader Sue F., you find a funny video you'd like to see featured here at the Comedy Examiner's Office, feel free to send it in.  If selected, you'll get the thrill of seeing your first name and last initial in digital print: exciting, right?

If it has been a continuous video I'd be more inclined to believe, but whether they paused it or not they could have easily snuck something else into that box of wine. I've opened one, and there's plenty of room to stash something else. One hot-glue gun later the box is closed again.

Bogus. Where is the wine splash stain that would have come from the explosion? There's not one. Not even a speck or drop on the camera lens. From the way that looked, it was more likely a home-made explosive that was timed to go off.

Time for a chemistry lesson. Wine is only 10-15% alcohol; most of the rest is water. And water doesn't burn. Thus, nuking wine cannot produce a fireball.

Of course, if you heat a box of wine long enough, it will burst from the pressure of the boiling water and alcohol. But producing that sort of explosion would take much longer than five minutes, probably wouldn't destroy the microwave, and almost certainly wouldn't destroy anything else in the room.

Actually, as a wine maker, boxed wine is a great way to preserve the great taste of your wine for a lot longer than what an opened bottle allows. Honestly, if the perception towards boxed wine would only change, we'd all be making lots more of it.

The partial pressure of ethanol is greater than that of water, so if the EtOH gets hot enough, it should comprise most of the pressure in the bag (at an explosible concentration).

Clearly a fake, the time synapses was placed in for a small explosive of some sort to be placed in the microwave

Why is no one mentioning the fact that they have a foil bag inside those boxes of wine? It's metal and it would absolutely cause some sort of an explosion. Try microwaving a fork for proof.

Definitely fake. Watch the timer dial on the microwave just before the explosion and the replay. They are clearly set to different times. Also note that the explosion looks *exactly* the same from two different camera angles, right down to the piece of wood flying right at the camera.

I love a good explosion, but this wasn't one.
