Confirmed: 'The Hangover 2' will take place in Thailand, do its best to be as good as the original

The Hangover 2 will take place in WTF is that German?

Well, after months of speculation-- and a denial or two from the man directing the film-- it's finally been confirmed: The Hangover 2 will take place in Thailand.  Yes, the land of lady-boys and Pad-Thai will be welcoming Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, and director Todd Phillips when the film begins shooting in just a few weeks.  The original Hangover made hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide and established Galifianakis as a comedy force to be reckoned with, all while earning some very solid reviews.  Will they be able to maintain that level of quality for the sequel?  Well, experience tells us that, no, they won't, but let's hope for the best anyway.  Read all about it below, my gentle Examiner readers...

Even though Hollywood doesn't have the best track record when it comes to sequels, we're willing to put our hope and faith into Todd Phillips for The Hangover 2.  Maybe it's because the first one exceeded expectations, or maybe it's just because anything starring Zach Galifianakis automatically gets a pass here at the Comedy Examiner's Office (lone exception: G-Force), but I'm inclined to give this one the benefit of the doubt.  After months of speculation, Coming Soon has revealed that the sequel will, in fact, take place in Thailand (as previously denied by the film's director).  Here's what they're saying:

The Hangover 2 is headed to Thailand, a source has just confirmed to ComingSoon.net. Production will move there this fall with a script that sees the characters from the 2009 hit comedy traveling to Asia.

It would appear that Phillips' denials about the film's location were all just misdirection.  Coming Soon also confirms that Bradley Cooper, Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha will be appearing in round-two, settling the ongoing debate about whether or not Bartha had "earned" a spot in the sequel (of course he did, you nerds).  Phillips is currently putting the finishing touches on Due Date-- due to arrive in theaters this Fall-- in addition to wrapping up the scripting for Hangover 2

Which raises an interesting question: what will the script for Hangover 2 be like?  Moving the film to Thailand seems to offer up some very obvious possible directions for the story to take, and after the first film, one can imagine all manner of debauchery that our heroes may be involved in.  Will there be another hangover, wherein the cast are forced to retrace their steps?  That seems lame, but wouldn't there have to be in order to maintain the Hangover name?  What do you think, folks?  Sound off in the comments section below: we wanna know what you're expecting out of The Hangover 2

Stay tuned for Hangover 2 updates as soon as they become available, my precious snowflakes.  If you're worried that you're going to miss the next one, feel free to hit the "Subscribe" button up top to get all future Comedy Examiner articles delivered to your inbox.  We've got all manner of time-killing nonsense to keep you incredibly un-productive during the week.  Just look at all the fun we've been having around here lately:

"FAMILY GUY" CREATOR SETH MCFARLANE SIGNS ON TO GIVE DAVID HASSELHOFF A VERY PUBLIC VERBAL BEATDOWN-- in which we learn that Seth McFarlane will be heading up this year's Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff.  Gee, I wonder what the comics involved are going to focus on?  I bet it doesn't involve the drunken consumption of cheeseburgers.

OFF-TOPIC TIME: NEWLY RELEASED VIDEO GAME "LIMBO" IS THE CREEPIEST THING YOU COULD INVITE INTO YOUR LIVING ROOM-- in which the Comedy Examiner goes off-topic to talk about the newly released video game "Limbo", which is indeed incredibly creepy.  Come witness the Comedy Examiner admitting that a video game scared him, just like a little girl!

TRAILER FOR THE "SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD" VIDEO GAME IS JUST AS AWESOME AS THE FILM TRAILER (WITH VIDEO)-- in which we check out the trailer for the video game adaptation of Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim VS. The World, which had the coolest trailer we've seen all year.  This one's incredibly awesome, as well.

UPDATED WITH VIDEO: LINDSAY LOHAN GETS CONFETTI THROWN ON HER WHILE ON HER WAY TO JAIL (WITH VIDEO)-- in which we look at video footage of Lindsay Lohan getting a big-ass handful of confetti thrown on her as she enters the court to be shipped off to jail.  It's pretty much the most satisfying thing that you're going to see all week.

As a former Thailand Peace Corps volunteer and expat living in Thailand, I am rather concerned to see the sequel being filmed here. I have a feeling this film will do more to reinforce the stereotypes of prostitution and Thailand as a do-as-you-like society, which it certainly is not.

Yeahhh... tell that to all the foreigners at Soi Cowboy, Nana, Patpong, Khao San and anywhere in Pattaya.

I love living in Thailand, and hate the prostitution issue, but it isn't going anywhere soon.

in the photos at the end wasn't Zach G. getting a blow job from a Thai lady in the elevator? maybe , maybe not, but it would be dope if it had something to do with that! and Mike Tyson was on HBO's Entourage talking about being in this movie and having more speaking time!

I think they should "blackout" on a drink like Absynth or Everclear or Jungle Juice, something that is highly alcoholic and puts you down. Then thai midget sex or something with a mule would be hilarious..

The movie should be in vegas, like The Hangover 2: The forgotten night. They should make the seguel about the night that they forgot. Not showing what we already know, so we see what happend to them. I would like to see that. Than the 3rd one in Thai. What do you think?

I LOVED the first hangover, and dont get me wrong, i want this movie to suceed, i want this movie to make me laugh my @#$ off, but i am worried, a big part of what made the hangover so funny, was that it shocked you, it made a crack at everything that had been "sacred" and it was hilarious, i just worry that they might try to hard to make it funny. But all in all i think they can pull it off, phillips is a genius so i am not tooooo worried, but it is something to think about.

I had the impression that Phil had a affair with Doug's wife. Watch closely, when the movie begin Phil calls ( diall the numer that he knows by memory) Doug's wife, and say we fucked up, she gets up and go talk to him where no one can hear. In the police station the same thing, and she even asks if Doug was around. What do you think?

So excited but kinda scared, the Hangover is like my favorite movie and I WANT THE 2ND ONE TO BE JUST AS FUNNY IF NOT FUNNIER! The cast just clicks! but i'm also concerned about the sequels thing cos no movie with sequels has lived up to expectations, sometimes some things just need to be left alone u know

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Maybe movies tend to not live up to expectations because everyone sets them too high?

I think Hangover 2 will be a success as much as the 1st. maybe even more. The cast was great. I've seen the film hundreds of times. Loved every scene. The soundtrack was excellent. So I think Todd would have desire to make this Hangover a success and so go with the cast. All i can say is... No matter how they make the movie... i'll still be watching them.

I love the first movie but i agree that its gonna be tough to make a 2nd movie as good as the first due to the fact where do you go after the first. I mean its been done alls they can really do is put a diffrent local and slightly diffrent spin on what happend on the first movie. Though i still believe ill laugh my ass off

This seems very interesting all the crazy characters going to Thailand might make the movie feel like Borat( An foreign idiot in another country). Man it seems funny already. It might actually be funnier than the first one because I believe that The Hangover is one of the most overrated movies. Its funny but that as funny as everyone portrays it to be.

i liked him in the hangover... to a point. If they put anymore of him in there, it would have made me mad. He has this childish humor to him I don't really appreciate.
in most of the recent released pictures of the hangover 2 he's not in it. c: looks like it'll be the lovable 3some.

I have been to Thailand on numerous occassions. We have many friends there and are moving there in the future. They are the most humble people I have ever met. I think Hollywood is planning on a "fat pay check" of other peoples average lifestyle. They should be ashamed of themselves for wanting to embarass them in their own country and turn them into a joke, just so that they can make some cash and the world can have a "LAUGH". Poke fun at the Americans, believe me their are far more prostitutes, drug addicts, cross dressers, gays etc to script into your rediculous movie. You should make " MILLIONS"
