Former vice president Al Gore has always been one of the more divisive figures in the debate about manmade climate change. As one of the most visible people sounding the alarm on climate change, he is quick to come under fire. His new book “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis” provides plenty of ammunition for global warming skeptics without them having to read even the first page.
The new tome, seen as a follow up to the Nobel laureate’s “An Inconvenient Truth” provides Gore’s solutions to end rising temperatures. Half of the cover folds back to show the earth in its relatively pristine condition today while the other side depicts how it would look after being ravaged by climate change.
When you unfold the cover, the image you see if the earth as we know it today with its deep blue oceans, rich soil, and green forests. This side of the cover reveals an artist’s rendering of an earth where unchecked global warming has wreaked havoc. We are at a crossroads. We must choose which earth will be home to future generations.

Hurricane expert Ryan Maue of Florida State University first noticed something wrong with the images. It is there on the cover that inaccuracies and impossibilities are depicted thus providing skeptics a chance to jump on Gore much like they did the inaccuracies in his previous works.

The retouched image depicting our planet at some point in the future, contains images of five hurricanes. One storm off the coast of Florida is turning in a clockwise motion, an impossibility in the northern hemisphere. Another hurricane is shown near Peru and the equator, a place where hurricanes cannot form. It is also a bit ironic that so many storms are depicted when hurricane activity is currently at a 30 year low.
Sea level rises are something which is of great concern in a warming climate. The cover of “Our Choice” depicts the effects of rising oceans but does so in a manner that is impossible.
In the modified image, Cuba appears to be completely submerged. That would require a sea level rise of more than 6580 feet as that is the height of Pico Turquino on the island. Much of Florida as well is now under water as is a great deal of Central America.
The problem is that if there were indeed a rise of that level, Florida would be entirely gone as its highest point only reaches an altitude of 345 feet. Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Virginia and virtually every single other state that borders an ocean (and many landlocked states) would be submerged. Even Denver, the Mile High City, would be under water although presumably its residents could escape to the Rocky Mountains.
In fact, only 17 of the 50 states in the union would have part of their land above sea level, only two of which are east of the Rockies. Globally, that sea rise would be devastating as well sending many nations under the surface of the ocean including South Korea, the United Kingdom, Jordan, the Czech Republic and dozens more.
Gore has been prone to overstate both the occurrence of natural disasters and the rise of the oceans to drive home his point about manmade climate change. In “An Inconvenient Truth” he stood in front of an image of Hurricane Katrina while proclaiming, “Temperature changes are taking place all over the world and that is causing stronger storms.” In the movie he also discusses sea level rises of 20 feet, when not even the IPCC has predicted a rise anywhere near those levels.

Given the past problems with accuracy, most would have expected Gore to be especially cautious. It was only in February that his standard presentation the depicted “weather related disasters that are completely unprecedented.” He was however forced to yank the slide when the assertion was proven false.
Last month Gore was confronted about the inaccuracies in “An Inconvenient Truth” and a finding by the British High Court that the movie contained “nine significant errors.” He chose not to respond to the question. Unfortunately for him, just the cover of his new book is going to fuel those questions.

Are you kidding? This proves skeptics have nothing else to go on.
Too funny.
Jan - If they can't even get the cover of a dumb book right, why are you so convinced their science is right?
@jan.
How does it?
I guess we should not judge a book by its cover or maybe in this case we should.
At least its clear that Al's scientists were not involved in creating that cover.
Photoshop is not about truth.
A world full of hurricanes, yet North America is so dry all the vegetation disappears. Global Warming logic = Trash peddled to the ignorant.
eatadic notions are not at all illegitimate.
Those on the left - who despise religion, slavishly embrace the faith of global warming. Nothing these people do makes any sense. Dr. Savage was right about liberalism being a mental disorder.
On a warm day in the beginning of June, two tiny flies that live for only a few days met on a leaf.
One says to the other, "My grandfather said the world is getting warmer. His grandfather told him of a time when it was much colder."
The second fly responded, "I have measured the temperatures and have determined the world is warming by 1 degree every generation. Soon our grandchildren will live in a vast desert."
The next day the two flies met again on the same leaf.
The first fly said, "Through out my life, I have spread the word of this great warming. We are now expending our great resources in hopes of reversing these trends. It may take generations, but I am confident that our efforts will return the world to cooler days."
One wonder whethers the skeptics will even bother reading anything on the issue of the book or remain captivated by the cover.
@Ken Grubb - Heck, no. We will read it cover to cover for the comedic value and to see if he makes more errors than he did in An Inconvenient Truth.
Robert
I would even hesitate to call it science at all.
What a hell do you expect from a guy making 50 milions a year trading CO2 offsets
This new religion and former science (climatology) is a scam. Most of the believers (climatolojists) will argue that crazy people like me refuse to acknowledge the facts and data on global warming. Well, as to the question of weather or not the Earth is getting warmer, it is. Now here is where people like me and climatolojists differ. A scientific mind must be very careful to separate correlation and causation. Just because two events happen at the same time does not mean that they are linked in any way. Scientists have done much research on the subject. It seams that governments around the world repress any scientific facts that are contrary to this new fascism. Fact = all other planets are also warming at same rate as Earth. The EPA's own report was suppressed by the current administration in June 09 because it did not reflect current policies, Google it, I dare you to think for yourself. To understand why climatolojy is so insidious, you only need ask, who benifits?
what time of year were each of those photos taken?
hahahaha, did you all see climateGate - where all of Al's buddies are busy deleting data about the inconvenient cooling we've had in the last 11 years.
I see Newfoundland has disappeared in the second picture of earth...lol. The ocean would have to rise hundreds of feet for this to happen....lol. What a idiot but he is laughing all the way to the bank!!!
Jan, If they can't even get a book cover right, why would you presume there is anything of any value inside. I am an engineer who is concerned about environmental issues. But... Global warming and cooling are happening to earth in synch with the other planets in our solar system. It's the sun, not man. This is a scam, Jan.
Like kids wouldn't like Santa without the presents, we'd like to make Al and all those bankers with German names richer if it hadn't been for global warming. But wait a sec...who told us about Santa? The gifts are real... And global warming? Well, Al and the bankers will get sickening rich...
Does this mean Santa and GLobal Warming are both true?
No, as said below, it's all in the sun. It's been hotter before. GREENland was named such by the Vikings. They were not color blind. Glaciers later kicked them off their wonderful colony.
Actually, while coastal Greenland exhibits melting, snow is piling up on the middel. As on a coin, the most metal surface is in the middle, not on the edge.
Is we'd disallow any melting of fallen snow, how are we going to arrange for rivers, salmon, eco systems, and water in the oceans at all?
It's all so flawed.
Sad thing, most humans will be stupid enough to litterally buy it. Pay huge taxes, give away their financial and constitutional freedom
What should one think of a book by a politician called "Inconvenient Truth"? These frauds, hustlers and crooks lie about EVERYTHING, and when the lies are discovered, they respond not with apologies and by telling the truth, but by more lies and senseless finger-pointing at their critics!
Shifty-Al and his cronies lied about global warming? What do you expect? The only thing to do is consider the sources, acknowledge their default position to be one of deception and coverup, and to inform yourself and your friends of the truth from more reliable and independent sources, whether one is discussing "global warming", their wars in Iraq, Kosovo, or Afghanistan etc., overhyped airline "terrorist" incidents, National "healthcare", economic "recovery" or other deceits...
PEACE AND FREEDOM!!
