"We must HALT it!"
"We're DOOMED!"
Good grief, many of us are old enough to recall the last time the public consciousness was assaulted with this utter nonsense. Then it was all about global COOLING. Today it’s Global WARMING. Those who have been chanting this mantra have simply switched sides of the mantra fence they are chanting on, and have been at this for decades. The surprising part is; masses of gullible people still believe them!
Liberals have enjoyed this particular niche for decades. For them it has become that comfy pillow and blankie they just can’t give up.
Thankfully real scientists are now fighting back. Successfully!
The American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Editor in chief recently published a pro Global Warming article stating that the science was decided, Anthropogenic Global warming exists! In an article titled “Climate-Change News” Editor Rudy Baum declared “the science of anthropogenic climate change is becoming increasingly well established.”
Well,the editor had another thing coming, one that has left him somewhat bewildered and surprised, at least publically anyway. The Scientists he, at least nominally, represented revolted! Baum claimed it was "increasingly difficult to challenge, despite the efforts of diehard climate-change deniers.”, and the members of the ACS reacted. The Climate Depot reported on the revolt with the reactions of the scientists, such as:
“I think it's time to find a new editor,” ACS member Thomas E. D'Ambra wrote.
Geochemist R. Everett Langford wrote: “I am appalled at the condescending attitude of Rudy Baum, Al Gore, President Barack Obama, et al., who essentially tell us that there is no need for further research—that the matter is solved.”
Edward H. Gleason wrote: “Baum's attempt to close out debate goes against all my scientific training, and to hear this from my ACS is certainly alarming to me...his use of 'climate-change deniers' to pillory scientists who do not believe climate change is a crisis is disingenuous and unscientific.”
Atmospheric Chemist Roger L. Tanner: "I have very little in common with the philosophy of the Heartland Institute and other 'free-market fanatics,' and I consider myself a progressive Democrat. Nevertheless, we scientists should know better than to propound scientific truth by consensus and to excoriate skeptics with purple prose."
William Tolley: "I take great offense that Baum would use Chemical and Engineering News, for which I pay dearly each year in membership dues, to purvey his personal views and so glibly ignore contrary information and scold those of us who honestly find these views to be a hoax."
William E. Keller wrote: “However bitter you (Baum) personally may feel about CCDs (climate change deniers), it is not your place as editor to accuse them—falsely—of nonscientific behavior by using insultingly inappropriate language. [...] The growing body of scientists, whom you abuse as sowing doubt, making up statistics, and claiming to be ignored by the media, are, in the main, highly competent professionals, experts in their fields, completely honorable, and highly versed in the scientific method—characteristics that apparently do not apply to you.”
ACS member Wallace Embry: “I would like to see the American Chemical Society Board 'cap' Baum's political pen and 'trade' him to either the New York Times or Washington Post."
Physicists Dr. Lubos Motl, who publishes the Reference Frame website, weighed in on the controversy as well, calling Baum's editorial an "alarmist screed."
“Now, the chemists are thinking about replacing this editor who has hijacked the ACS bulletin to promote his idiosyncratic political views," Motl wrote on July 27, 2009.

Climate Depot reports that Baum cited the United States Global Change Research Program , the discredited Obama Administration Climate Report to prove his claims. As proof the Climate Depot notes its own article “Climate bill offers (costly) non-solutions to problems that don't even exist - No detectable climate impact: 'If we actually faced a man-made 'climate crisis', we would all be doomed' June 20, 2009”, The Depot correctly notes that the Climate change bill otherwise known as HR 2454 “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009” which passed in the House of Representatives on June 26, 2009 had nothing to do with Global Climate change. It was a Tax Bill that had little to do with changing Global Climate, and a lot to do with raising Government revenue through taxing the irrelevant-to-climate gas, CO2. The Bill was not intended to reduce emissions; it was designed to increase tax revenues.
Because Congress was not given time to read what was in the bill, few representatives were given the opportunity to find out what it was all about, other than what it was fraudulently sold as. Though Baum claimed that the bill had “real teeth” it was anything but when it comes to the Manmade Global warming which makes a twisted sort of sense. Given that there is no “Manmade Global Warming” actually effecting a change to it would be impossible, and apparently the authors and ardent supporters of it such as Al Gore are perfectly aware of that inconvenient fact! Taxes do not reduce emissions. America uses the energy that it must to function, there is no deliberate desire or intent to use more than necessary, it is after all very much in the best interests of keeping costs down to use only what is needed. Most businesses and consumers do not act like children given free access to a half gallon of ice-cream, gorging themselves on a treat. Far from it.
Climate Depot reports on the fallout from the Baum article, which in hindsight may well have done the United States a great favor in exposing the Global Warming Hoax for what it is; a hoax.
On May 1 2009, the American Physical Society (APS) Council decided to review its current climate statement via a high-level subcommittee of respected senior scientists. The decision was prompted after a group of 54 prominent physicists petitioned the APS revise its global warming position. The 54 physicists wrote to APS governing board : “Measured or reconstructed temperature records indicate that 20th - 21st century changes are neither exceptional nor persistent, and the historical and geological records show many periods warmer than today.”
The petition signed by the prominent physicists, led by Princeton University's Dr. Will Happer , who has conducted 200 peer-reviewed scientific studies. The peer-reviewed journal Nature published a July 22, 2009 letter by the physicists persuading the APS to review its statement. In 2008, an American Physical Society editor conceded that a “considerable presence” of scientific skeptics exists.
In addition, in April 2009, the Polish National Academy of Science reportedly “published a document that expresses skepticism over the concept of man-made global warming.” An abundance of new peer-reviewed scientific studies continue to be published challenging the UN IPCC climate views. Well now, isn’t this amazing. It appears that not only is Climate Science NOT settled, a very large and significant majority of the scientific community thinks otherwise.
A March 2009 a 255-page U. S. Senate Report detailed "More Than 700 International Scientists Dissenting Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims."2009's continued lack of warming, further frustrated the promoters of man-made climate fears. In addition, the following developments further in 2008 challenged the “consensus” of global warming. India Issued a report challenging global warming fears ; a canvass of more than 51,000 Canadian scientists revealed 68% disagree that global warming science is “settled”;
A Japan Geoscience Union symposium survey in 2008 reportedly “showed 90 per cent of the participants do not believe the IPCC report.” Scientific meetings are now being dominated by a growing number of skeptical scientists. The prestigious International Geological Congress, dubbed the geologists' equivalent of the Olympic Games, was held in Norway in August 2008 and prominently featured the voices of scientists skeptical of man-made global warming fears. In a final coup d'état, Climate Depot exposes this little gem: UN IPCC's William Schlesinger admits in 2009 that only 20% of IPCC scientists deal with climate. You read that correctly, the IPCC Climate report was largely supported by scientists with zero climate science background.
It is safe to say that Manmade Global Warming (or Climate Change) has been thoroughly shown to be at the very best, very poor science, and the real scientific community has weighed in. Man Made Global Warming does not exist. It is a Hoax, a myth, a lie, and a tool used by unscrupulous governments in misleading the public in an effort to more easily separate people and businesses of their hard earned money.
Contact your local Senators and demand a "No" vote on HR 2454 the “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009” when it finally makes its way across the Hill. For not only will the bill not accomplish its stated goals, it is not designed to attain those goals. It is nothing more than a tax on businesses and Americans in general, which will beggar an economy already beset with a horrible recession, a truly monstrous National debt, and conditions ripe to mature into a full blown depression. It is income redistribution on a a historic scale, and all based on what amounts to a lie.
Contact your Senators, unless of course you are willing to plan your life on a hoax.

Olivia, everyone with more than two brain cells knows that climate change is real -- and not at all unprecedented. It is the Al Gore kool-aid drinkers that think this particular bit of change is the fault of evil, CO2 spewing humans.
There is too much peer-reviewed SCIENCE that disagrees with your OPINION to ignore -- unless you, like Hansen et al, have already made up your mind and refuse to consider it.

You make the same mistake Baum made. By making statements like, "Man Made Global Warming does not exist. You show your lack of education, understanding of science, and that dogma rather than evidence inform your opinions. If you were editor of ACS and made ignorant statements like that the members would turn on you even more strongly.
I found that if you really dig into the IPCC studies, the scientists are generally very honest and frustrated about the difficulty of conducting hard science on such a soft subject to produce the results they are being asked for.
The political summaries and interpretations of those studies are quite disconnected from the science. As are believers who have little motivation to be skeptical of what they hear from like minded politicians or journalists etc.

The questions are scientific, but the UN answers are political. The global warming debate is hardly about science. It has become a cause célèbre, championed by activists, politicians and celebrities. To deny their belief that humans are the cause of global warming is to invoke their wrath. Science is not consensus; Science is theory, observation and measurement. Science is not, “let's all take a vote on the speed of light and see what number we get.” Science is dictated by nature's rules.

Nobody disputes climate change. It's the two theories that
1. The climate is warming due to Co2 Levels, and
2. We could stop emitting CO2 and reverse the problem.
For 1, there is a very strong correlation between sunspot activity and global temps, and virtually none for CO2. That's why the earth has been cooling for about a decade.
And for 2, It's unlikely we could reverse the global temps. Especially if CO2 is a minor factor anyway.

For sure, all of the thousands of climatologists, chemists, and meteorologists around the world who've signed off on CO2-induced climate change -- the product of tens of billions of tons of CO2 sucked out of the earth and burnt into our thin, five-mile high atmosphere every year -- must be wrong, and all you smart people must be right.
