Lansing connection to the Super Bowl just for laughs

Who has heard of the game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”? Well, lets play Six Degrees of the Super Bowl! How close can we connect Lansing to the Super Bowl!

First, Lansing is in Michigan: in 1982 the Super Bowl was played at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. That year the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 good for them that showed those Buckeyes.

Add to that, in 2006 the Super Bowl was played at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10. This makes a connection to Super Bowl 2011, since the Pittsburgh Steelers are once again playing this year.

Now we can get really silly with this game. The 2011 Super Bowl is being played at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas – Lansing connection: I, the Lansing City Guide, have been there several times having lived in Texas for 10 years. I also lived in Wisconsin for six years so was for some time a Green Bay Packers fan and making another connection.

For another connection to the Super Bowl and a bit of Super Bowl trivia, what date was the Super Bowl played in 1978? No cheating and looking it up! This is the only Super Bowl fact I know even though I’ve watched dozens of games. I have as of yet found any average person who knows. Ok, I’ll tell you – January 15th! Why do I remember that one fact you ask? I happen to have gone into labor for my second son during half-time of the game. An added connection, we were living in Texas at the time, the Dallas Cowboys played against the Denver Broncos defeating them 27-10.

A few other distant connections would include: the 1978 Super Bowl was played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana and I’ve been to New Orleans, the son born the day after the Super Bowl (yes, over 24 hours of labor) now lives not too far from San Francisco (ref 1982 Super Bowl), and my first born son lives near Denver now (he also played football in high school).

Have I lost you? I've managed to loss myself! So, what is YOUR connection to the Super Bowl? Oh and for your information I feel a close connection to Kevin Bacon too – I have a nephew who could pass as his twin and he lives in Texas (my nephew that is), yea another Lansing connection to the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XLV is Sunday, February 6, 2011. Kickoff at 6:30pm EST
Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers at the North Texas and Cowboys stadium.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a trivia game based on the concept of the small world phenomenon and rests on the assumption that any individual can be linked through his or her film roles to actor Kevin Bacon within six steps. The name of the game is a play on the "six degrees of separation" concept. In 2007, Bacon started a charitable organization named SixDegrees.org
