H.R. 5741 is currently being argued in the house of representatives. If passed, H.R. 5741 will give the president the power to require 2 years of compulsory service from every US resident between ages 18 and 42. That's not a misprint: everyone between ages eighteen and forty-two will be required to serve in any capacity at the president's whim.

This bill will destroy US commerce as citizens are reassigned to service. The bill's sponsor is Charles Rangel, a democrat from New York. The bill does not yet have a co-sponsor. It was introduced on July 15th and is now before the armed services committee.

Prison Planet reports, "Under this new legislation nearly all, able bodied Americans will be sentenced to two years of forced labor. The infrastructure is already in place for those unwilling to participate in mandatory service and now the army is looking to fill it’s ranks with Interment/Resettlement Specialists."

"The slavery bill is currently in debate in the House Committee on Armed Services chaired by Rep Ike Skelton a democrat from Missouri. Those who oppose mandatory slavery should contact Rep. Skelton. Many bills die in committee and this bill should meet the same fate."

The slavery bill H.R. 5741 is now being debated. It will allow the president to require 2 years of service between every US resident between 18 and 42. The Libertarian Examiner says. "The bill HR5741 is government sanctioned slavery. Read it and weep."

This is otherwise known as news not fit to print. I would have been more impressed if you done a little more work and opinioned on how this bill is really meant to open a line of debate about national service and what it means that most of the veterans come from poorer families.

Many countries in Europe have this in place and has worked well. For as long as there have been countries there has been compulsory service to one's country as a price for the benefits of living in the country. Service to one's country also engenders a sense of pride and accomplishmet. Those serving are not slaves. The are well compensated and are given the best of housing and health care, among other things. That is the plan As I understand it.

While Charles rangel has spent several years bleeding money from the economy he has had time to come up with such an ignorant proposition. How bout this chuck, how bout the career unemployed, the baby making lecherous, the useless drains on society be put to aid of the government instead of handing them free healthcare, food , and money. Because this would likely include a majority of chucks family members, and wouldn't be cramming more responsibility in the throat of the hard working white man.11-88

It will never pass. Congress always tries to bring forward mandatory service bills during times of war. It's their way of protesting the current fronts we have going on. They did it during the Panama Invasion, the Persian Gulf War, and now with these wars... Same 'ol, same 'ol.

It's just a ploy to get public support for going to war to decrease. But I love it when they do it because for people like me it just makes me hate the democraps even more. But not because they threaten to make a mandatory draft, but because they waste tax dollars writing bills so they can simply make a spectacle on the floor of congress and in turn manipulate public opinion. I hope it makes others not vote Democrap for the same reason as well.

Ain't gonna pass so ignore it. Passing this stuff around is exactly what they want us to do. And besides, Charles Rangel is going to lose his job soon anyways.

Wow, has no one actually *read* the bill, or any US history ever?

Even if it were a reinstatement of the peacetime draft, we've had a mandatory peacetime draft in place several time - as recently as 1973, in fact. Besides: it isn't a peacetime draft. Section 103 clearly stipulates that the only three ways is could be put into use are in times of Congressionally declared war, with the agreement of Congress in a contingency operation, or under the War Powers Resolution, which entitles the President to 90 days of military deployment without a Congressional declaration of war.

Not to mention: this bill has been put forward several times by Rangel, and not only has he no co-sponsor, but he has no Democratic support whatsoever. The bill isn't being 'argued', it's being completely ignored when it isn't being actively argued against by everyone with a shred of power.

Calling it 'slavery' is ignorant and inflammatory. This 'story' is not only completely fabricated, it's downright mor

What's different about this bill versus before, is that Obama made it known in his campaign trail that he wanted to see something like this passed into law though it had much less than the 2 year commitment. The fact that our elected representatives think they can even introduce a bill like this, shows how much America is changing. This tramples on our individual freedoms.

On top of that the Bi-Partisanship bickering in these comments show how ignorant we are as citizens. Whether a Dem or Repub, our representatives now work in the interest of banks, big oil and other large lobbying groups. Do we forget the $700 billion bailout passed by both parties is now $3.7 trillion as recorded by the latest TARP audit. How about the war in Afghanistan which both parties have continued? Anyone know the history of the war and its ties to oil? Neither party gives a f- about us, so to argue amongst ourselves over which party did what is to go along with their divide and conquer agenda.

Now they will send my daughters off to war at a whim, yes I did read the bill.

And who ever told any off you that they "did away with the Draft", just because they are not drafting anyone, does not mean it is gone, in fact it was and is the Law of the land.

If you are Male and between the Ages of 18 and 26 you MUST register for the Draft, that does NOT mean when you are over 26 that they can/will not draft you, their is no age limit.

Government requiring anything from ordinary citizens beyond tax and obedience to laws is unconstitutional. People have their own lives to live, their jobs to do, their families to raise. Being conscripted into government service on top of, or instead of these, will seriously disrupt people's already overburdened lives.

To put it simply, this isn't the 1940s when people believed the government could do no wrong. The populace is a lot more cynical, self-centered and distrustful of government than it was 70 years ago.

Well this bill will never pass. Politicians don't want to upset their lazy constituents, who like voting for warmongers without actually going to war themselves. I don't see how this is an infringement on our freedoms. It there a constitutional guarantee against this sort of legislation? Of course not! It's service for your country! That's pretty standard fare for a nation state.

If this bill could be used to improve infrastructure (roads bridges, and parks) instead of security it would be great.

Fake story or not, I am all about mandating service for 2 years at a minimum. Have you seen the state that our young people are in? I realize this is a broad generalization, but take it with a grain of salt. I see so many lazy, unmannerly, entitled "snowflakes" everyday that it makes me want to remove my kids from public school just to keep them away from this social trend. As long as the military doesn't soften its standards any more, it would be an excellent place to get these kids' heads on right. I was raised with a good work ethic and sense of responsibility so I did well with my time in service, some of these kids today have never had to lift a finger for anything because mommy and daddy were there to do everything for them and fight all their battles for them and then they would get a trophy for participation, come on!! a couple years of service would be great for the majority of today's youth. to you naysayers, keep in mind that freedom isn't free so suck it up and move on.

Read the actual bill, it's JUST a better draft program IF we ever need it. At present, the president has the authority to require most Americans to fight in a war under the draft for an indefinite period of time or face prison. This bill is actually a progressive step forward for the country. It specifically allows for conscientious objection in writing, and provides opportunities for people to serve in other ways if our community needs them in a time of major national defense.

Truth be told, I think it's a fine idea to require a mandatory 2 years of service in the military OR be working towards your college degree. And if you can't complete college, then you still have to do your 2 years of service.

I think that'd make our future generations a hell of a lot better people in general. Military service not only teaches discipline (which our younger generations clearly lack...unless it's getting their WoW char to max level) and also exposes them to a lot of far reaching parts of the globe where they'll be able to 1) realize just how damn good they've got it and 2) perhaps give them a fresh look at humanitarian services that are needed

If the writer had actually read the proposed bill they would realize that it's actually very logically written and makes sense. Also, it's basically just a revised draft with provisions for prolongment of induction to the 2-year term, early terminations, exemptions, and implementation. Not to mention, it states that one must serve in a military OR civilian capacity to serve the defense of the nation. That says to me, if you work for the DOD or in some other similar capacity, you probably wouldn't be moved to another form of service because it's already your job. Also, they put this type of bill in every summer, and it never gets passed. I wouldn't worry about it.
