The Maldonado Dynasty, a brand new cigar company based in California, has introduced its new cigar ‘The Mogul’. The initial buzz about this cigar was started with some very interesting Jazz events at several locations around the country. One of the events benefitted a child from the ‘Make-a-Wish’ foundation. Proceeds from that event will allow her to visit her Grandmother in Australia.
I first learned about The Maldonado Dynasty when Paul Maldonado started up a twitter account, @Maldonadodynsty. Tweets about the blend selection, events and other information piqued my interest.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to receive some samples of ‘The Mogul’. The following are my thoughts on this new cigar.
From cap to foot, 'The Mogul' is a good looking cigar. The band is very detailed with the cigar’s name in fanciful script on either side of a crown and shield. Inside the shield are the words Maldonado Dynasty of Beverly Hills. Below that are the words ‘Siempre Fino’ in a red ribbon. Siempre Fino means ‘Always the Finest’. This is also Maldonado’s catch phrase – ‘Always demand the finest’.
The Arapiraca wrapper leaf is very dark with a natural sheen. There were a few veins but nothing that detracted from its appearance. The cigar felt firm along the body and had a good weight to it. The wrapper had a deep, rich tobacco aroma while the foot had some earthiness along with the tobacco aroma.
The pre-light draw was firm and smooth. I noticed a bit of sweetness at this point.
The cigars had a nice burn, a little wavy at the start but they corrected nicely by themselves. The ash was very tight and firm. I was able to keep a 2 inch ash before it dropped for the first time.
Each puff brought forth a satisfying amount of smoke. My initial take on ‘The Mogul’ is that it is very smooth and mild. At first there are woody and earthy flavors and a very clean aftertaste. Once I was into the second half, coffee and some slightly sweet notes combined with the flavors from the first half.
Overall, Maldonado Dynasty’s ‘The Mogul’ is a very enjoyable smoke. It is a good looking cigar with an interesting combination of flavors. I would classify this cigar as mild in strength with medium body. I’m hoping to see this blend arrive in my local Tampa Bay cigar shops soon. I’m looking forward to pairing ‘The Mogul’ with my favorite coffees and cocktails.

I love them just for what they did for the child, allowing her to visit her grandmother. I would willingly support a company that thinks about its community and beyond just the profits.
Maldonado Dynasty's 'The Mogul` has my vote!
