Growing list of scientists who consider young earth creationism (YEC) a fact and evolution as bunk

Insert photo caption or credit her

In keeping with my article, No more sweeping statements by scientists on the origin of life, evolution and old earth creationism, here is a list of scientists with links to their biographies.

Before trying to claim all scientists believe (operative word) in evolution consider this list first. Once you have all of them in your corner, then you can sweep all you want.

Please let me know if someone else should be on the list or if someone on the list has fallen off the wagon. In the meantime, rest assured there are well studied, hard working, credible, peer reviewed, well published scientists who claim YEC as a fact.

No more sweeping statements by the opposition. No more.

Francis Bacon - Dude, Bacon died in 1626, more than 200 years before Darwin published his theory of evolution through means of natural selection. Big whoop.

If you want your list to be respectable, you should remove anyone who also does or did not accept quantum mechanics and relativity.

"Dr." Kent Hovind is a "well studied, hard working, credible, peer reviewed, well published scientist" ? Maybe you could look into where he got his Ph.D. and where he currently resides (federal prison)

To second the comment made by Reginald, Louis Pasteur? 99.9% of scientists (according to the National Academy of Scientists) accept evolution. Nice list though....good laugh. I'm sure these guys have posted their "findings" in obscure Christian websites and chatrooms and delusional religionists claim this as "evidence." Give up man...pathetic and an insult to the humble and multi-useful work done by REAL scientists.

A respectable list would focus on those scientists who have published articles in accredited peer review journals in which they apply YEC as a guiding principle to reach their conclusions.
Such a list would be empty. But respectable.

@ Tom...a broom for you. Would you like to be more specific. There's the list, what they published and where it can be found.

    @Felix...are you suggesting more inbreeding?

@ Tom...a broom for you. You mean to tell me of all those folks on that list none of them have ever been peer reviewed? And you know that how?

@Felix...are you suggesting even more inbreeding?

Even if all those listed were legitimately qualified to comment on the subject, and clearly many are not, the list is paltry and unimpressive. There are a few famous scientists in their own fields who apparently had their own bent, though no one knows how much attention was paid.

The rationalization as to why Newton should be included is pretty lame.. evolution wasn't a major concern at the time, and certainly not Newton, who though brilliant was something of a nut. BTW he didn't believe in the trinity either, and spend most of his later energy trying to do alchemy.

Moreover, this tiny number, compared to the vast majority of the scientific community, and certainly those in the relevant fields, dwarfs this list. If you're going to try an argument from numbers, this doesn't cut it.

  • Bill 2 years ago

@Al...I suppose you were feeling left out and wanted a broom, too. Here ya go! "...the vast majority ..." And you can prove this how?

It's not about the numbers. A scientist only needs to be right once.

Didn't someone say that "if everyone in the room is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking" and "if everyone is thinking the same thing all but one of them are redundant?"
The point - No more sweeping statements. No more "scientists say" as in ALL scientists. No more intimidation as in we have all the scientists one side and knuckleheads on the other. No more. You can say some scientists (I'll give you that) believe (operative word) in evolution. But ALL scientists do not.

For goodness sakes Bill. The facts are the overwhelming majority of PhD biologists accept evolution as the best explanation for the diversity of life on earth. The overwhelming majority of geologists accept that the earth is about 4.5 Billion years old. The overwhelming number of astronomers and cosmologists accept that the universe is about 13.7 Billion years old. Check the scientific societies web sites for corroboration.

You can get more facts right here in Honolulu by visiting the University of Hawaii at Manoa and arranging some face time with the heads of the science departments. Some may not want to waste time with you because they probably have much more productive activities to pursue. This knowledge is all intertwined. There are multiple ways of verifying these facts. That is why they are so widely accepted. You will always be able to find a few scientists who disagree for religious reasons. None has been proven "right" yet.

Stick to religion. Augustine was correct.

Of that list, you discount nearly all of them because they are either a)long dead or b)irrelevant to the subject.

Almost every single scientist working in a field relevant to evolutionary biology understands that evolution is a fact of life on earth. They also understand that theories on evolution attempt to explain those facts.

The relative minority (<1%) of living, working scientists that do not believe in evolution do so because of religious beliefs, not because of anything drawn from evidentiary science.

    "It's not about the numbers."

Bill, if it's not about the numbers, why did you assemble this list?

"A scientist only needs to be right once."

And how does your list establish that any of these "scientists" are right about Creationism?

How many of those "scientists" are named "Steve"?

Your list can be divided into several categories of irrelevancies, which will severely diminish its impact.

Those who lived and died before evolution by means of natural selection was published and widely accepted. (e.g. Bacon, da Vinci).

Those in professional fields which are not actually scientific research (e.g. dentists, physicians, engineers)

Those who have actually published valid science WHICH SUPPORTS EVOLUTION, but who have promoted Creationism for religious reasons (e.g John Baumgardner, David Menton, Kurt Wise)

Meanwhile, let's consider those who are real scientists in fields relevant to evolution, and whose publications in the peer-reviewed literature support their belief in Creationism: ZERO.

As a case study, let's consider John Baumgardner.

According to Answers in Genesis, Baumgardner was a devout Christian first, and got his degree in geophysics specifically so that he could use it to argue for Creationism. So in no way was he driven to that conclusion by the evidence.

Baumgardner is not a field geologist, and has no experience or expertise in geochronology, and yet he took part in the RATE studies, an attempt to discredit isotope dating by performing it badly. No actual geochronologists were involved with RATE. Neither RATE nor any other of Baumgardner's Creation "science" is published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.

Baumgardner did contribute some useful science by developing computer models of geologic processes, but all his legitimate publications in this area USE AND SUPPORT OLD EARTH DATINGS.
I.e. his actual scientific research does not support his Ceeationist activism.

Bill: "You can say some scientists (I'll give you that) believe (operative word) in evolution."

Most scientists believe in evolution based on the scientific evidence. A few scientists believe in creationism based on their religious faith.

Seriously, what is up with the "broom" comments? Bill, scientists don't "believe" in evolution. They accept it based on the given evidence. If someone came along and presented evidence that contradicted evolution, nothing would probably excite scientists more. You see, Bill: science was, is, and always exist in pursuit of truth, regardless of the fairytales that religionists promote. Their "belief" system is malleable based on the revelation of greater evidence. Can you say the same for Creationists?

Honest creationist Kurt Wise on transitional fossils
    ...
Wise basically gives away the whole game by conceding that the fossil record does contain numerous examples of transitional series bridging major transitions.
    ...
Kurt Wise has forthrightly stated that his adherence to Biblical literalism comes first, and if the physical evidence is against creationism, so much the worse for the evidence. This is why Richard Dawkins dubbed Wise “an honest creationist.”

Young earth creationists have made themselves into a laughing stock with the rhetorical trickery they love to use all the time. The argument used in this current posting is a perfect example: 'Look at all of these guys with degrees who believe in young earth creationism. Thus it must have scientific credibility.'

Of course, the *real* question is this: Where is the *scientific* research any of these people have published in the professional science literature that supports their young earth creationism belief?

Answer: It does not exist. These scientists have published exactly ZERO research papers in the professional (peer-reviewed) science literature in support of their young earth creationist ideas.

Additionally, we know that many of these men are writing all the time about young earth creationism in the context of their particular fundamentalist religious beliefs about the Bible.

Young earth creationism is religion, not science. Degrees with no relevant research are meani

I'm actually embarrassed that this list was assembled and distributed by someone in my home state. Bill, this is simply patheitic!

Ask yourself this, Bill: if evolution is the best explanation for life as we know it (it is) and a ~14 billion year-old universe expalanation is the best fit with all cosmological observations, why should that have any impact on whether or not Jesus was a good guy. I mean, real or not, Jesus has had more impact on Western Civ than anyone except, maybe, Elvis.

All available evidence indicates that evolution and Elis are real.

Wow! I've never seen so many brainwashed evolution faithful in one place! Fact is, NO SELF-RESPECTING EVOLUTIONIST will give an explanation for the origin of life, because they KNOW it's impossible by natural means no matter how many quadrillion years they add to the process. Another fact, evolution is a postulation at best. It isn't really a theory and it is very, very far from being proven as fact. You folks need to lay off the kool-aid.

ok, ONCE again, what would someone like to give these not too shabby thinkers above, that would be the all encompasing proof of evolution?
