Glenn Beck 'Restoring Honor' rally attendance: CBS says 87,000 attended, Beck fans say more

The number of folks who attended Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally on the mall on Washington is already a heated point of debate Sunday morning.

Glenn Beck already joked in this rally video that the media would claim only 1,000 or so people attended his rally, and I nearly chuckled to myself when I saw this CBS report claiming only 87,000 people were there at the Restoring Honor rally.

People are already tweeting about the CBS attendance number.

"CBS study says Beck rally only drew 87,000 -- about size of typical Ohio State home football game," retweeted some Twitter fans a few seconds ago.

Pastor Joelle retweeted, "CBS News says 87,000 attended Glenn Beck Fest. Fans on Twitter are saying 300,000+...Fascinating."

"FOX: Crowd at Beck rally estimated at more than 500,000. // don't tell CBS that. They claim 87,000 LOL!" wrote another.

Either way, video of Sarah Palin's speech at Glenn Beck's rally was a popular piece on Examiner, but the one leading folks to watch Glenn Beck's rally online on Facebook when it streamed live was one of this writer's most popular yesterday.

CBS says 87,000 while Glenn Beck fans and attendees say it was closer to half a million. What say you about the number of folks at the Restoring Honor rally?

We came...from all across this GREAT country, WE THE PEOPLE came. We stood peacefully, on our knees in prayer, greeting our fellow Americans, sharing our food and water. WE the People spoke silently, honorably and in unimaginable numbers to the political corrupt: The sleeping giant has awakened. We will not fall asleep on our watch again. The number of attendees? As far as the eye could see in ALL directions, we were shoulder to shoulder. From the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, barely a space to squeeze through. We may not have been able to see or hear, but we made a statement to be heard around the world. The number? More than enough to make the statement...and then some. I was there. It seemed like millions. It was a restoration! A restoration of faith, hope, charity, and, for me, a restoration of belief in my fellow Americans and my country!

I was there. Came down from Pennsylvania. The mall in the center holds 250,000 it just JAMMED full. The right field holds another 300,000 it was completely full and reaching the river. The other side had another 200,000 under the trees almost matching the size in the mall. I could not determine how many that went up and past the monument but they went all the way up the hill.

It is so sad to see people commenting with personal attacks against Glenn Beck versus taking the intellectual approach to providing a counter opinion on the issues that were raised at the rally. The ignorant people resort to name calling; because they can not or are too lazy to provide an alternative set of ideas that can be supported with sound reasoning.

The media is lying about the Beck event or other events (not sure which one). In mall proper, 100,000 people can fit. If the left side is full, it is a total of 300,000. Based on previous events that the media has covered at the same exact location, about 200,000 people were there.

The 87,000 estimate by CBS is beyond laughable.
The area around the reflecting pool alone holds 200,000, and people were standing shoulder to shoulder there. Also, the side stretch of grass holds 300,000, and was entirely full. Beyond that, the aerial photos do not show the massive number of people standing below the trees that line the path to the Lincoln Memorial (probably around 50,000 more people). And on top of that are the people that were actually sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, those sitting on and around the WWII memorial, and those stretching all the way from the WWII memorial to the Washington Monument (probably 150,000 or so more people). Given that, my estimation would be around 700,000.

87,000 is the most ridiculous estimation I have ever heard in my entire life.
Absolutely ridiculous. Completely telling of the overt bias in mainstream media against Beck and conservatives alike.

This is why I don't watch CBS (or any "main stream" news) news for anything. If they can't get a simple thing like an estimate of crowd size right, why would we trust them to report real news - truthfully!? And I find it interesting that critiques have to resort to joking and cursing to put this type of thing down. It just shows me how much they actually don't care about the country - otherwise they'd be a bit more serious and factual.

Look at the original MLK "Dream" rally pictures where all agree 200,000 people were in attendance and the crowd stops at the beginning of the pond. At this rally the people are packed in the entire length of the pond and beyond. So the spin of the great "failure" of getting out the numbers is absurd.

Ultimately it certainly is not a question of numbers but of purpose. And as in the original rally this one can have positive effects for years to come.

87K huh? Thats about right having been in attendance the whole day... Then again, that number only is accurate to the numbers of people in the bathroom at any given time... personally, I would guess that well over a million attended at one time or another but likely peaked at 750K at once...

Honestly, folks lined the banks of the reflecting pool and were side by side for at least 200 feet and then spread amongst the trees and structures. This was true from the Linicoln all the way to WWII memorials. Beyont that and all of the way to the Washington Memorial, there were people everywhere.... 87K is typical left minimalization... .

CBS is part of the Communist Media. They can't say the crowd was 500,000 or O'bama or the Unions would fire everyone on the staff. Or take it over like everything else. Besides, if you listened to Beck last week, he said they would have proof of how many where there. He knew CBS, ABC, CNBC, CNN and The Huffington Post would come up with some tiny number so he was prepared. Those planes someone else mentioned where most likely taking HD pictures for Glenn. Those on the left don't mess with Glenn, he's got you guys figured out. He'll have the proof.

Let's do some simple math... It’s 0.8 miles (4,224 feet) between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Let’s assume that the crowd was stretched between the two structures and that it was ¼ mile (1,320 feet) wide… 4,224 feet x 1,320 feet = 5, 575,680 square feet. If you divide that by 2 (for the reflection pool, trees, obstructions, etc.) you get 2,787,840 square feet. Now assume that each individual had the own personal space of 9 square feet (3 feet by 3 feet). Now divide 2,787,840 square feet by 9 square feet and you end up with 309,760 individuals.

Bottom line… who cares how many people were there. It’s the message that’s important!

It's obvious to any thinking person that the number in attendance was well into the hundreds of thousands, or more, given the numbers reported from other events in the same location. Ratings show that most of the US already suspects that CBS is no longer relevant as a news network; this just confirms the suspicion!

I feel like everyone is missing the point here. Of course the media lies. Most people have known or at least had some suspicion about this for some time. The point is that they have always lied. Let me repeat that, they have ALWAYS LIED. They have also manipulated, mislead and misinformed. They have a pretty good reason to, most of the time their survival depends on it. They lied during the last presidents office and they will during the next. They are shameless and have no scruples. But the Media let us not forget, is also the vehicle that Mr. Beck has effectively used to get hundreds of thousands of people to take a day out of their lives to go to a rally in Washington DC. Last I checked FOX NEWS IS A MEDIA OUTLET. The point is that without the megaphone that is Fox News which is a media outlet this rally would have never happened. How someone pick and choose which media outlets to believe and which television personalities to trust? In my opinion no media outlet can be fully trusted including Fox News and Cbs. Huge media outlets all have an interest in keeping us dumb, deaf and blind. Their existence depends on it.

Sorry CBS - I was THERE. I have pictures and video from being there. I sat in traffic for 1.5 hours to go 2 miles to get to the last metro station on the Orange Line (Vienna) - and almost everybody that we asked in the cars around us were going to the Rally. That's 20 miles outside of DC at 8:15 AM (rally started at 10 AM). No - there was 500,000+ people there. The media can spin all they want - nobody listens to them, nobody cares. This showed a massive voice, a massive ground swell of support to get our country back on track and away from these no good, useless life-politicians trying to drive our country straight to socialist, marxist hell.

I was there too.. along with 5 friends from our small Southern town. We ran into several others randomly and a couple from our town on the plane. Total was 12 folks. I am certain there were more. How many 'small towns' in the US are there? How many had a dozen folks to go? There were "Lots" of great Americans there. The website I just looked at showed a aerial photo that appears to have been taken early in the morning, maybe 7 or 8 am, because the denseness of the crowd along the lawn and steps of the Lincoln Memorial was much thicker than shown) I arrived at 9 am and made my way to the right side of the gated empty 'block' of space behind the stage, very near the vet that sells stickers and patches. There was little space to move so I slipped out to try to find a better view and not so tight a area.. I walked around the right to the Linclon Memorial (shown on most photos) Each side was packed with people, most were in lawn chairs or blankets but it was packed. I had to step inbetween chairs, blankets and standing crowd. I crossed over the steps of the monument down the other side, around pipe gates and even around to the left side under the trees. It was 'unreal'.. By 12 noon I had made it to my friends and we moved away from the hot concrete area where we originally were and down the Vietnam wall (that is how far over we had to walk to get down to the WWII Memorial (that is the circle fountain at the end of the reflective pool) We sat there along the rail by the Atlantic entrance to rest.. It was a hot day many folks like us that did not have a shady place moved way out to have a shady place to cool and stretch out. It would be great to get a accurate number, but that isn't as important as the meaning and the message.. and the ones of us that spent our own hard earned dollars to be there got what we needed out of the trip. Why doesn't someone (I am not that computer savey are I would) set up a place to list your name if you were there? Include your state or hotel or flight #, train, bus.. I'll put mine on there.. Have it set up to 'kick out' duplicates in the case that someone puts a friend on the list that is already on there? I would like to know if it were 500,000 or more. Maybe it was just a few thousand I may have been 'dreaming'!

87000 sounds about right. if you look at the crowd shots and compare those with the Rally to Restore Sanity, it is clear that over three times as many attended the Rally to Restore Sanity. As it is estimated (again by arial photos - not by how it "feels") that 215 thousand attended the Rally to Restore Sanity, then, really, 87000 is about right.

When you look at the pictures of the crowd it only shows the reflection pool. The trees on each side were completly full of people. On the other side of the Washington monument there was a field and that was full of people. Some were just tourist. But the signs that people had showing were they were from and what they were there for, It had to be 300,000 people.

The reason that none of us believe that half a million people attended is because of the lies of the crowd size of the 9-12 project. Beck said 1.7 million people attended, when in reality, the aerial photos show that the crowd size was 1/10th that.

Also, Glenn Beck said that the crowd size was somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000 people. How do you have a crowd size that inexact? CBS pegged the crowd size down to around 87,000 people, but the closest estimate Glenn beck can give is 400,000 people give or take ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND. That just screams to me that the crowd size got exaggerated more and more by people that were attending.

I would agree. It's amazing to me that those on the left are so against America and what America stands for. When you know what Glenn stands for and the honesty and Patriotism and we read comments from the left it makes you wonder why they too hate America and the majority of the population. Maybe, they should move to Cuba, Russia or some other hell hole and see what it's like to live under communism and see if it's their idea of utopia.
