Rush Limbaugh leaves New York after taxes skyrocket

Yesterday Mr. Limbaugh announced that he was leaving New York as his very part time residence based on the secret tax increases that the Governor and the legislature agreed to. Limbaugh said he basically goes there only to record his show when hurricanes threaten the Florida area where he normally records the show. He also said he visits the New York staff at Christmas. But Limbaugh has said he will now find another getaway from hurricanes.

Limbaugh said he was seeking a state such as Texas that was tax free on income as Florida is. There are only a handful of states that are income tax free but Florida is the only one on the east coast. Since Limbaugh does his show live from 12pm –3pm EST. Doing it any further west would cause him t have to start earlier in the day with not only the show but the several hours of show prep. Limbaugh would also be further behind in the new cycle. Maryland’s income tax rate for residents is 6.5 percent. However Tennessee only taxes on dividends and interest income.

Limbaugh points out that raising taxes on the higher earners in New York is counter productive. Most conservatives agree that raising taxes usually yields less revenue while lowering taxes has historically brought in more revenue. He points out why Mayor Bloomberg was against it at one point. Bloomberg notes that New York City has eight million people and is paid for by fifty thousand people who are “rich”. Even liberals will eventually start to leave places like New York if they tax them so much it starts to affect their lifestyle. New York is essentially raising the income tax on people making more than 500k a year by 31% and people making between 250k and 500k a year by 14 ½%.

The government and the media use terms like generate4 revenue when talking about how taxes will be applied. This is removing the situation from reality because it doesn’t generate any revenue. The government is not selling a product; it is taking money directly out of your pocket for nothing in return. Economies never grow on increased taxes, only the government grows.

Does New Hampshire have an income tax now, or is that just not East Coast enough? It's sad how little respect the Constitution gets in this part of the world.

    "for nothing in return."

What about roads, schools, police, social services, street maintenance, public transportation, legislation. What??? You want to live in the anarchy of a third world country?

I realyy don't need to read more right-wing propaganda about taxes. Our economy was much healthier during the Eisenhower era.

In the long term obscenely rich people have two options: A. Permit the wealth they obtained (through the existing system) to be shared with the rest of the population or B. Have the system overthrown and the rug pulled violently from under them. Societies with huge inequality do not survive.
Republicans came close to precipitating choice B under Bush. If they manage to cheat and deceive their way into power for another 8 years or so the tidal wave that sweeps them out may well make FDR and LBJ look like Reagan.
