When it comes to staying slim and shaping up, celebrities like Jennifer Aniston credit Pilates for giving them that long, lean appearance. What's intriguing about Pilates: even if you don't lose weight, Pilates can strengthen your abdominal muscles and improve your posture. The result is that you may look slimmer.
Country Music celebrity Reba McEntire uses Pilates to maintain her slender figure. Despite a demanding schedule that involves extensive tours, Reba puts her body through the repetions required for the Pilates 100s on a daily basis, according to her personal fitness and Pilates expert
Risa Sheppard. This classic Pilates move strengthens your back muscles while simultaneously sculpting your abdominals.
Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates, who created what has become a fitness phenomenon only after years of studying and fitness work. He sought to invent a way to help exercisers focus on the muscles involved in achieving good posture. As a result, Pilates is more than just a set of sit-ups and exercises. It requires that you learn to use your breath to strengthen and improve your body, including aligning your spine. Many sports professionals and dancers rely on Pilates today as part of their regular exercise regimen.
For example, Beijing Olympics silver medal champion Tim Morehouse also uses Pilates to stay lean for his fencing career. In addition to practicing his fencing moves, he performs Pilates exercises three days a week. Morehouse also watches his
diet.
Pilates also can help to achieve a fabulous figure like Michelle Obama maintains, according to Lisa Avellino, who has worked with professional athletes, TV personalities, and celebrities. The Fitness Expert for
www.Focus28.com, Lisa says that "balance and symmetry" are the keys to the First Lady's
toned appearance. In addition, "it is important to stretch and incorporate a variety of movements such as yoga and Pilates which will work your whole body. A fusion of movement and technique is key."
