ESPN's Jay Mariotti arrested for abusing girlfriend

ESPN commentator Jay Mariotti was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attacking his girlfriend. Mariotti is known for his sports talk on ESPN and was also one of Tiger Woods' biggest supporters when it was rumored Tiger may have been abusive to wife Elin.

A popular ESPN commentator, Jay Mariotti, 51, was arrested and locked up after an altercation with his girlfriend at a California nightclub turned to something physical, reports the LA Times.

According to RadarOnline Mariotti and his girlfriend left the club and headed back to Jay's home where the alleged attack took place. The police were called at 4:30 am. Jay Mariotti was booked and charged with domestic abuse an hour later.

Jay Mariotti, who is also a guest commentator on ESPN's 'Around The Horn' was being held on 50,000 dollars bail. "I can confirm that Mr. Mariotti was arrested in the very early hours of this morning," an LAPD spokesperson told Radaronline over the phone. "No further details are being released at this time."

"What Jay Mariotti has done could cost him a lot of work," said one local resident. What are your thoughts on ESPN's Jay Mariotti being arrested for domestic abuse? Leave your comments below.

Let's see Jay Mariotti get the same treatment Chris Brown got for abusing his girlfriend. Of course, Chris Brown got a Felony rap and Jay Mariotti will get a Misdemeanor slap on the had rap. What a sad racist society we live in?

Obviously he's innocent until proven guilty. Though given that standard, he's been guilty of terrible journalism for some time now...

I think that Jay is a hypocrite. He is always on t.v. talking about how athletes should be role models, and then here he is abusing his lady. He is a chump

It will be interesting to see him if he returns to "Around the Horn". If he does I cant wait till a troubled athlete is in the news and see what his comments will be.

I agree with you! Tiger was never rumored to being abusive to Elin... he was guilty of cheating on his wife and nothing more. There is no comparison between Tiger and Jay. I'd have to concur that you are a horrible analyst.

It's unfortunate that such a person of high moral standing, as Mr. Mariotti has led us to believe he is, is nothing more then an "alleged" abuser. I hope the woman is ok.

Jay has criticized many athletes over the years for their questionable behavior in their personal lives, lets see how critical or noncritical he is of himself and most importantly lets see the response of his peers. For years I've I sat and watched news reporters trounce on the misfortunes of athletes, I'm curious to see how ESPN. handle this and what the sports reporters half to say, Mike in particular and lets not forget Mr. Skip.

Mariotti should've been charged a long time ago with being a giant douche bag who makes a living by shouting incorrect guesses about sports. Just last week he couldn't stop shouting how there's a zero percent chance of Favre coming back again. The most casual sports observer knew how dumb that was.

Everyone is entitled to their day in court so that all the facts are presented.

That being said, a man abusing a woman is a cowardly act. Particularly if it is physical abuse. I hope that ESPN does the responsible thing and perform its own investigation and the consequences should be significant if domestic abuse was involved.

Really need to check your facts before you write your story - according to all the websites, he was one of Tiger's strongest detractors. He had nothing good to say about him - so maybe you should clarify that.
