Canadian filmmakers, mark your calendars. YouTube announced Thursday that it was launching Your Film Festival, a new contest to find the best storytellers in the world.
Your Film Festival is the result of a partnership between the social networking site, Ridley Scott and Scott Free London, the Venice Film Festival, and Emirates. Interested applicants ages 18 and up have between February 2 and March 31, 2012, to submit one or more 'story-driven' video(s) of up to 15 minutes in length.
Entry is free and all genres and formats are welcome. However, films cannot have been publicly shown or distributed before January 1, 2010. And international films will have subtitles added.
A voting period will follow, during which Scott Free Productions will select 50 semi-finalists. YouTube users will then choose 10 finalists, who will travel to Italy on September 1-3, 2012, to see their work open the 69th Annual Venice Film Festival. The contest winner will be announced at a Your Film Festival ceremony, streamed live from the festival. He or she will receive a $US500,000 production grant to work with Scott Riley’s team to create a new story.
More information on Your Film Festival, including official rules and how to submit your entry, can be found on the Your Film Festival Channel on YouTube.
