Satire: Obama's Thanksgiving proclamation

Well, he’s nothing if not consistent. A year ago, Senator Obama told Joe the Plumber that he thinks it’s good when we “spread the wealth around.” This year, the first official Obama Thanksgiving proclamation encouraged the nation to do just that.

Obama’s brief and rather bland Thanksgiving proclamation is on the surface nothing special. A closer look at the text, however, reveals the very historical nature of this document.

Presidents George Washington through George W. Bush all found a way to incorporate God into their proclamation. Some were only minor references to God, while others were quite detailed in their thanksgiving toward the Almighty for His blessings upon this nation.

Mr. Obama, however, ever fearful that he might offend a terrorist by not referring to God as “Allah” seems to find it more comfortable to just ignore God and the Christian heritage of this nation. Such has been his MO since taking office in January.

Indeed, one can almost picture how torturous the drafting of this anemic proclamation must have been for the former Barry Soetero, what with all of the lauding of America and the Almighty.

Our most high community organizer sits behind his desk frowning and yelling. He throws a lamp against the wall in frustration.

“What’s all this about thanking God?! I don’t need to thank God, I am the one they have been waiting for. The great thing about this country is that we aren’t a Christian nation! As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”

“But Mr. President, we should probably thank the Christian God, or at least acknowledge Him in some way.”

President Obama throws up in his mouth at the thought of praising either God or America. Both are an anathema to his worldview of secularist socialism and Islamic apologetics.

“Re-write this. No mention of God or the greatness of America. Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation. As my spiritual mentor used to say,” (said as Obama begins to chuckle) “Nah Nah Nah, not God Bless America, God Damn America!”

“Yes Mr. President.”

The aides finally return with a draft suitable to both Mr. Obama and the Castro brothers.

So, in his Thanksgiving proclamation, President Obama can only find it in himself to reference God indirectly through the words of George Washington. His proclamation refers to George Washington’s call to observe Thanksgiving "by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God,” yet makes no such call for the Americans of 2009.

After all, we don’t want to offend our good friends Major Hasan or Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Yet, Mr. Obama continues to make history with another “unprecedented” event.

In this “unprecedented” proclamation that “few would have foreseen,” the abandoned child of a socialist alcoholic Kenyan, raised by his “typical white” (see also racist) grandmother (when he wasn’t taking in the ambiance of Muslim Indonesia), President Barack Hussein Obama, chooses to supplant “the Almighty” with himself. In a nation known for our humility before God and seeking His favor from our very founding; where Abraham Lincoln famously remarked that he wouldn’t ask if God were on our side, but rather if we were on His; our current president has so relegated God to the sidelines that he doesn’t even qualify for one of his famous “shout-outs” during a proclamation of “thanksgiving.”

Instead of thanking God, the president would prefer that we gather together “to express appreciation to those whose lives enrich our own and to share our bounty with others.”

In other words, the president of the United States just asked that we “tell God to shove it, thank the government for taking your money and giving it to someone else, and continue to spread the wealth around.”

That, to the “One Nation Under God,” is truly unprecedented.

This column reflects such patent idiocy. Whenever someone trots out their Christian God and their Christian nation without any true understanding of diversity in this country is only trying to score points with a mentally challenged constituency.

i have to agree with Jim above. America is a melting pot of religious diversity. As an atheist, I appreciate him keeping God(s) out of it.

Kind of ironic that an "examiner" would be so unwilling to examine his own biased and frankly frightening view of the world. Might want to do some examining of the history of the Pledge of Allegiance, too, since you deemed fit to end your willfully ignorant rant with it.

    I'm with Jim on this.

I'm an atheist. This speech should be equally accommodating to all races, religions, and partisan views.

And frankly, whining about your god not getting enough attention doesn't make your religion any more appealing.

This article is the biggest crock of $#it I have ever read. This is NOT a christian nation. It is a nation of free men and women.

This is not reporting, or 'examining'. This is a conservative religious opinion piece.
