Glenn Beck makes no bones about it, he hates liberals or progressives or whatever you want to call them - he hates them with all his heart. As a Mormon, I guess that's what Jesus would do to, since Beck models his life after Jesus.
In his speech on Saturday at CPAC in Washington, DC, Beck brought his chalkboard. He wrote the word "Progressivism" on it and said, "This is the disease."
"Progressivism is the cancer in America and it's eating our Constitution, and it was designed to eat the Constitution - to progress past the Constitution," Beck said.
He said that the only difference between a communist and a progressive is that communists seize power through revolution and progressives through evolution.
"We don't want to evolve," Beck shouted.
"It's big government. It's a socialist utopia."
"We need to address it as if it is a cancer. It must be cut out of the system because they can not coexist. … You must eradicate it," Beck told the cheering crowd of conservatives.
Beck's desire to rid America of liberals and progressives is frightening. What is he telling people to do? Is Beck saying that liberal and progressives should killed or shipped off to another country? Is he telling progressives that you're not welcome here and you should just leave. Or else? Or else what?
Beck said that it's OK for people to disagree, but it's hard to take him seriously when just a few minutes before he was describing people who disagree with him as a cancer that must be eradicated.
"You must eradicate it. It can not coexist." That's Beck's message to his followers. There's no common ground. There's no understanding of differing political viewpoints.
Either you believe what Beck believes, or you should be eliminated from the equation. That's some pretty heavy language.

You like the most progressives are distorting the issue. He doesn't want to kill them. He wants to make sure that they are not in political power. We have a democracy and they can be voted out of power. What they are doing is destructive and should not guide the direction of our country.
Oh I'm distorting the issue. I quoted Beck verbatim when he said "You must eradicate it."
Unless there's some magical machine that change people's political views from liberal conservative, what options are there to eradicate it?
Beck clearly has very little faith the current political process to solve this problem, so what's left?
Voting and eradication are not the same thing. You can pretend they are and that's fine, but for the rest of us, he said eradicate and he meant eradicate.
Keith, You can eradicate the influcence without eradicating the people or their right to free speech. They can continue to hold their views if they so chose. We unlike progressives believe in a democracy. However in may countries that follow a progressive ideology the opposition is either in jail or killed.
Better and more complete and unbiased education is one way -- so much of our education is biased and one sided. A media that would be more balanced instead of having a strong progressive bias would be good too.
I think he is saying the people that are trying to bypass the constitution of the United states need to be eradicated. They are either communists or socialists. Our country was not built on either one. I don't know about you but I had to pass the constitution test to get out of eighth grade. Obama was going to school in another country. Where old George Soros was I don't have a clue he's just plain CRAZY in the head. Obama is a detriment to our country plain and simple.
Keith, do us all a favor and move to Russia, Cuba, Venezula, Maybe then you will get a clue. Glen Beck is the best friend you will ever have to be free. Stop being a Moron!
Boo Hoo..... Ol' Glenn was right on the money when he referred to the Socialist, and you proved yourself to fit right into the equation.
Whine all you want, America wanted change in Government, not a change in ideological beliefs moron. We want government to listen and do what we need, stop the PC rhetoric, stop the special interest, stop giving away my tax dollars to bull crap groups and others that want my country to fail.
So stop acting like the citizens of this country don't get it, because we do, and we see those that wish to do us harm. You bring yourselves to light every moment you whine about it being "not fair".
It's OK. You can call me names and tell me to leave my country all you want, but I'm not going anywhere. How dare you, or anyone, try and run me out of my country? I don't think you know what freedom is.
I don't understand this modern red-baiting. I have yet to see a single policy or speech by Obama that would lead me to believe that he's a communist. You may not like him, but a communist? That's dumb.
I don't understand you people. It makes me sad that so many people seem to cling to red-baiting when they can't compete with integrity in open and honest political debate. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Glenn Beck is an absolute disgrace of a human being. He and anybody who agrees with him are exactley what is wrong with this country. All of you so called "conservatives", give me a break, you are the biggest hippocrates. You ("conservatives") are the largest phony group of people I have ever seen. All of you need to move to texas where you can have all the guns, booze and babies you can handle. Then you can drink while you read your bibles and fire off your rifles. I just hope every once in a while there's an accident. Hey, population control :)
Beck is a sniveling idiot... Period.
Better and more complete and unbiased education is one way -- so much of our education is biased and one sided. A media that would be more balanced instead of having a strong progressive bias would be good too.
Glen Beck and his ilk perfectly represent about 25% of this population which believes they--and ONLY they--are "real" Americans. They are a bunch of illiterate racists. The only good thing about them is that their rhetoric is so obviously hateful that they will repel the very people they need to succeed. At least Beck didn't cry like the little sissy he is....
Beck's a nut job and his arguments have no creditability, because if you wait 15 minutes, he'll argue the counterpoint.
There is a lot of good evidence that he is a marxist. First he attended a church for 20 years led by a minister who espoused "Liberation Theology" which has its foundations in marxism. His commnets about "redistribution of wealth" are rooted in marxism. One of his college associates who was at that time a marxist had converstations with him that clearly indicated that he was a marxist at that time. I tried to add the url but it would not let me -- but the man's name is John C. Drew
There is a lot of other evidence to support this contention and it is clearly not "stupid" as you say.
Keith, spend any time in the Middle East in a uniform?
I have, I've spent a lot of time around a group of people that would rather kill me because of where I am from and what I am rather than look at me.
How dare anyone try to run you out of "your country?"
Do you support the Constitution?
Do you support the Department of Education? Social Security? Medicare/Medicaid?
Now Keith, if you want to claim this country as yours and you support any of the three bureaucracies while claiming to support the Constitution than you are not very bright or a usurper.
How dare you distort a call to freedom loving American's to run for office, be politically involved, and learn our countries history anything but what it is, a restoration of our Constitutional Republic.
Are mad because you have no intellectual honesty in your asinine arguments?
I'm glad to know there a peeps hard at work like @stopbeck on twitter.. He and others have helped 119 sponsors see what kind of hate monger Glenn Beck is. In turn they pulled all advertisements. Beck has no ad dollars from the UK this past week.
Did the author even watch this speech. Of course communists and progressives should live happy lives... just not run anything important in government whatsoever. History repeats itself.
The tide is turning... hippie!
Matthew your comment is pretty funny. You say Becks followers are racists but your statement includes generalizations that indicate a form of prejudice that racists use -- I guess you are racist against Glenn Beck followers. Ha Ha Ha.
Bottom line - Glenn Beck is a hypocritical asswipe who only appeals to the lemming-like right wingers who wouldn't know the truth 'cause of home schooling, which in itself is retarded.
Wow the loonies are on the internet tonight.
Thanks for reading.
I'll respond to your comments if they aren't idiotic.
Oh, please. Glenn Beck does not hate progressives but their agenda. It fascinates and saddens me how America has become so divided. A house divided cannot stand. Rather than point fingers and play the blame game, we really ought to pay attention to what is happening to our country, our future, and our diminishing status as a super power. We used to be the greatest nation in the world because we were the land of opportunity where dreams could be lived out, goals could be reached and nothing could stand in our way. Now we watch in horror as our country goes down the drain because we have let conniving, lying, greedy, power-hungry officials redefine who is boss. We gave up our right to hold them accountable and now we can't stop them. We listened to their lies without questioning their past, their records and their agendas. They have succeeded in getting us to fight amongst ourselves and hate each other so that we will be too preoccupied to notice their dirty deeds. Shame on us.
Don't vote people this country is doomed because people like beck will be in charge soon. He said small tent AKA only white, to bad the DEMs suck but the GOP I guess dont want my kind. Goodbye good old USA, I'll miss you.
My hypothesis is proven over and over and over. Liberals like Keith have no real arguement. They lower them selves to name calling, because it is all they have. Now I happen to think that Beck is a little bit "out there," but if you really take the time to listen to what he says, he is educating all of us on the dangers facing the future of our country. Keith says people don't want to enter into honest political debate. Well, Keith, my friend, I am still waiting for "honest," and "debate." By the looks of most of these posts - it appears I'll be waiting for awhile.
Beck doesn't even have the gonads to call out his own boss Rupert.
Rupert and Fox News have been in bed with the Chinese Communists for years.
So while Beck rewrites history and calls for genocide against so-called 'progressives', Fox is running propaganda joint ventures with state-run China Central Television and The People's Daily (the mouthpiece of the Communist Party).
"In meeting with Murdoch, Liu, also member of the Political Bureau and of the Secretariat of CPC Central Committee, appreciated the active work Murdoch has done in advancing cooperation with China's news media."
--The People's Daily Online, Nov. 10, 2006
President Jiang expressed appreciation for the efforts made by world media mogul Rupert Murdoch in presenting China objectively and cooperating with the Chinese press over the last two years."
--Xinhua News Agency, 1998
Beck: too much cocaine, not enough backbone.
Pete, if Keith had an intellectual courage he would engage on the issues instead of saying the "loonies" are out and he'll only respond if a post isn't "idiotic." He's an elitist tool who thinks he's oh so smarter than everyone else because he obviously has never risked his life and his families lively hood for the sake of this great nation, nor has he obviously taken any real risk or interest in history.
I'm sure I am referred to as a loon because I say we are a Constitutional Republic. Since, if we were a "democracy" everything would be done by popular vote instead of proxy votes for represented districts by elected officials... which is a Republic.
The progressives have lied about the way this country actually operates for decades.
Someone mocked home school here, saying it was stupid, yet home school students often excel above and beyond public educated students.
Gee, I wonder why... they get real study time instead of government indoctrination but we're the stupid ones
Is it just me or has no one on this page at all challenged Beck's ideas? I've read some name calling and silly finger pointing. Can any one out there take a few moments to explain why our government expanding and spending billions of dollars it doesn't have is a good thing? Can anyone explain how forth and fifth generation well-fair families have been empowered to succeed by government handouts? Can some one please tell me why we are not allowed to opt out of broken government programs like social security? Explain how government "creates a job" without first taking money from some one who has worked to earn it? Can someone give one example from history where a country has been able to "spend its way out of a recession"? If some one would take the time to answer even one of these questions in a thoughtful way i would love to read it. Thanks.

VeeRex, "you're just trying to distract from the fact that Glenn Beck wants to murder progress and the people fighting for it!!!"
"Glenn Beck is rewriting history with history to show the world that the Constitution was never intended for our superior 21st century intellect."
"Why don't you just go pray to your God and use your guns to defend your family you progress hating hater!"
Now imagine the voice of Pat and you should understand exactly what I just said.
Also... I'm a conservative/libertarian (ie white male) who was previously married to a brown Israeli Jew (falling apart had nothing to do with race of religious or political views) and am currently courting an Armenian girl... so I must be a racist!!!
They have no intellectually honest arguments against history or issues, which is why they will dodge every valid question and only insult you.
Ok this is hilarious. Some of you "conservatives" are actually trying to claim the intellectual high ground. I find that quite amusing. Why don't any of you use your sky high analytical skills to actually take an objective look to where this country is now compared to where it was ten years ago. This country is now on the verge of bankruptcy. The "conservative" track record of the past decade is the most shameful/hypocritical/incompetent excuse for leadership I have ever seen.
The facts speak for themselves people. The middle class is shrinking. The cost of living is exploding. The country is saddled with so much debt thanks to a reckless uneducated hillbilly president and his ever faithful, can't think for themselves congressional cohorts and their incredibly short sighted policies.
Let me make this clear: YOUR NOT A CONSERVATIVE IF YOU SUPPORTED THE LARGEST TAX CUTS TO THE WEALTHIEST SEGMENT OF OUR POPULATION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FIGHT TWO COSTLY & UNNECESSARY WARS.
It's pretty obvious from the quotes you cite that Glenn Beck was saying progressism should be eliminated, not progressives themselves. Either you have a second-grade reading level or you're distorting the truth as much as Beck himself does.
Well I wish I could say "great conversation," but considering the topic, I can't expect too much.
As usual any critique of Beck is responded to with vitriol, hatred and incoherent blathering from conservatives.
Conservatives say I'm dumb. I'm a communist. I'm not a real American because I didn't kill for my country. I should just leave.
And then some wonder why I don't engage them in conversation about the "real" issues. That's code for Obama is a communist, which is code for Obama is black. Where was the outrage when Bush bankrupted this country and expanded the gov't more than any president since FDR? Crickets from the right.
The "real" issue regarding this story is Beck purposely used the word "eradicate" for a reason. If all he meant was that conservatives need to win the war of ideas, he would have said something along those lines. Beck said liberals have "hijacked" the country and must be "eradicated." You can look for nuance all you want, but that's not his style.
VeeRex, "you're just trying to distract from the fact that Glenn Beck wants to murder progress and the people fighting for it!!!"

You're ridiculous. Anyone who actually took the time to listen to the speech knows that Beck is against PROGRESSIVISM. At no time does he advocate eliminating Progressives. He DOES believe we need to eradicate Progressivism from our government. But that is a far cry from suggesting murder or even imprisonment of people.
People like you are what is wrong with politics. Bend the words, twist the message. God forbid someone should be allowed to disagree with you.
Hah hah hah, I love these pathetic attempts to belittle someone by using antiquated arguments because they have no concept of history.
Bush was not a conservative, he was a globalist/progressive Republican. That's why he increased spending and grew government. Sorry, you can't blame Bush and expect to win an argument against someone who hates Bush too.
Hey Keith, I wasn't going to make a direct comment like this, but since you pulled the race card claiming that we/I don't like Obama because he's black means you're a useful idiot. There is a small minority of racists who don't want him because he's black. I could care less about his skin color but rather the policies he's trying to push and he's criticisms of the Constitution and his blatant disregard of it.
I also was unhappy with Bush ignoring the Constitution, but... but... but Bush!!!
Guess what, Reagan grew the government and gave an amnesty in 86, does that mean I slobber on him? Nope, Reagan was the greatest President
Gosh Joe I must have missed that populist outrage directed towards Bush from the right. That's strange since it was just over a year ago he was in the White House.
Let me rescan my memory bank.
Nope, it's not there.
"Reagan was the greatest President." HA HA HA HA HA, thanks for starting my morning off with a laugh. That's easily the funniest thing I have read in a decade. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out.
Oh and Joe, your anecdotal evidence that just because you're not a racist doesn't mean that other people who think like you aren't.
There are probably liberals with racist and anti-semitic views, but that doesn't mean all liberals believe that.
And certainly when one can make judgments about a group of people that carry racist signs, make racial comments and act like racists. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it's a duck.
Obviously blanket statements about any group of people will have exceptions, but those exceptions don't invalidate the general assertion.
But I'm not fan of political correctness - I call it like I see it. And if some people don't like it, oh well, they write their own stories then.
That is funny! Beck models his life after Jesus...hahahahaha...cause Jesus would have been one of the first in Haiti after the earthquake! Anderson Cooper went to Haiti so perhaps he is more Jesus like then Beck!
Well I'm glad you laughed about a typo.
Reagan WASN'T the greatest president ever. If you worked on your English comprehension you would have been able read through it and bring that to light rather than jumping on it like band wagon idiots.
There wasn't a push against Bush form the right because most people have fallen, all people in general, into the political correctness and Rep's vs Dem's trap.
Bush has had me angered for years over his spending and expansion of government. I was also angry about how poorly the two wars were intentionally managed. Not a conspiracy, just read the Rules of Engagement and use commonsense to see if it was being fought to win or not.
Oh yes Keith, because challenging my statement with a vage generality must give your claims of racism some credit?
Most people are reasonable. I've talked to a lot of people of all races and backgrounds. When they hear reason, like Obama's policies and out right lies, than they tend to agree with it.
Here are some quotes to chew on:
"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives weve set. Weve got to have a civilian national security force thats just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.
"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it Id be OK"
"But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it's been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can't do to you. Says what the federal government can't do to you, but doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf."
"And that hasn't shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court-focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that."
Yeah... these quotes sound like they're from someone who really holds our Constitution in high regards.
My brother and one of my good friends are trapped in the concept that they only have any form of lifestyle from government handouts, rather than working tha tmuch harder to make things better for themselves. They have so openly condemned the Constitution in their support for Obama.
It's garbage like this which is why people tell you that you can leave Keith. Your kind may say you love this country, but you usurp the Constitution, so where is the real love?
Joe you lost me a long time ago. You appear to be quoting someone else and attributing it to me?
Your arguments are confusing and incoherent, so I'm going to just move on with my day and the next story.
Good luck to you.
Yes, it does. What he's saying is that some things are meant to be handled through the legislature, not by the courts. How is that in any way in opposition to the Constitution?
"And that hasn't shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court-focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. Cal,
First off, someone who is complaining about the Constitution limiting the federal government and complaining that it does not "expressly state what the government should do for you" is not someone who either supports or believes in the Constitution.
Keith,
Those are quotes from Obama and the discussion is strictly about the Constitution, in addition to his support of an Unconstitutional civilian defense force.
The argument is no incoherent, but since you have made no attempt at debate and simply disregard any opposition as "beneath" you, I'm not surprised.
Hah hah hah, I love these pathetic attempts to belittle someone by using antiquated arguments because they have no concept of history.

See we all have our biases based on our basic assumptions about life and the world in which we live. But the fact you embed the Glenn Beck video here but not the Barack Obama praising ACORN clip in your next column shows that your bias is completely disproportionate to your responsibility to fairly present facts.
@ Keith - YOU are tripping dude. Beck's true supporters might have much to say that you liberals hate but the left is exponentially more vitriolic than the right could EVER be!
You got me Al. Because I was able to embed Beck's speech and not Darrell Issa's heavily edited video to make Obama look like a shill for ACORN, I'm clearly just a liberal jerk.
But the fact is I couldn't find the video that Issa made of Obama that I could embed on Examiner. I looked for it, I couldn't find it. Not much I can do about it.
And when I find all those vitriolic lefties you mentioned, I'll be sure to write stories about them. I'm sure they're out there somewhere.
