=============
The following info comes from discussion board on website known as "Cascades Climbers"
He went for Storm King this weekend. His tent was found at 2 mile camp on Park Creek on Sunday night by two rangers, who then went back and checked on Monday morning and it was still there. His permit was through Sunday. His camera and binoculars were still in the tent, and his sleeping bag was in the stuff sack. I forgot to ask about his backpack. I expect it is missing, since it wasn't mentioned.
He checked in to the Stehekin ranger station at 11:11 AM on Friday and was expected home on Sunday. He left quickly after that (probably to catch the bus to High Bridge). It takes about 4 hours to hike from High Bridge to 2 mile camp. That would put him there around 4:00 or 5:00 PM (due to the bus ride...most likely 5:00 PM). Most likely he did not go for the summit on the same day he hiked in to camp.
He would have climbed Storm King on Saturday and came out on Sunday.
FROM NORTH CASCADES PARK, TRAIL CONDITIONS ADVISORY
Updated August 27, 2010
The past few weeks have been typical hot and dry North Cascades' summer weather, but a cold front with snow levels dropping to 6500'-7000' is moving in, and we've seen a dusting of fresh snow and the distinct smell of fall in the air on cooler mornings! If you are travelling at higher elevations, be prepared for cold rain or the potential for new snow. Despite the cool forecast of the next few days, this time of year it can still reach very high temperatures both above tree line and on the lower elevation trails.
The fire fire season this year has been relatively mild, with one fire currently smoldering in the Rainbow Creek drainage near Stehekin (see full report for closures). Trails are generally snowfree, flowers are still blooming but the first hints of fall color are waiting in the wings. Bug populations have peaked and are on the decline, and the decline will be rapid in areas that see freezing temperatures in coming days. Trail crews are working on trail repair projects as well as continuing to clear winter blowdowns.
Weather in the North Cascades can be extremely variable. It is important to check the weather forecast, including the current snow level, before heading out. Carry extra food and clothing and leave an itinerary with family and friends. Please email us if you can provide a trail update.
Whenever and wherever you travel in the wilderness, please be safe, and “touch the wilderness gently.”
