You can tell that it’s fight week in Las Vegas. In a year that has been void of consistent and meaningful fights in the area, the city is starting to pick up a little bit of buzz for this weekend’s Yuriorkis Gamboa-Orlando Salido clash at the Pearl Theatre inside of the Palms Casino. The HBO televised showcase also features a key lightweight attraction between unbeaten charges Anthony Peterson and Brandon Rios in a WBA eliminator.
While the Gamboa-Salido clash isn’t the most fascinating of matchups that you will find it could serve as a precursor to greater things as a potential Gamboa clash with WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez could be in the works for 2011. Lopez is scheduled to arrive in Las Vegas this weekend and will certainly be watching the WBA champion from Cuba closely.
Gamboa worked out and spoke to the media earlier today at the Top Rank gym as his fight is now just four days away. Also in the building were prospects Matt Korobov and Diego Magdaleno who also fight on this Saturday’s card.
