'New Moon's' Kristen Stewart complimented by Jodie Foster, Sean Penn in 'New York Times' -- The Twilight Saga: New Moon star, Kristen Stewart, was featured recently in The New York Times and received complimentary remarks from fellow actors Jodie Foster and Sean Penn. Ms. Stewart worked with Foster in Panic Room and was directed by Penn in Into the Wild.
In Sunday's "Arts & Leisure" section, a fairly lengthy article by Brooks Barnes talks about Ms. Stewart's desire to be a serious actress among all the hype and frenzy of a media franchise. New Moon director Chris Weitz remarked on this, too, in the article, saying that it might "seem funny" to think about Stewart's abilities as a serious actress in light of the Twilight franchise, but that the acting tasks called upon her in the series "are kind of amazing."
Jodie Foster complimented the 19-year-old actor this way:
"Kristen isn't interested in blurting out her emotions all in front of her, and that results in really intelligent and interesting performances."
Sean Penn called Stewart "a truth machine...magically easy to direct. She is a real force with terrific instincts."
The article points out that Ms. Stewart will continue to move back and forth between the mega-hits of the Twilight Saga movies and smaller projects. She is next scheduled to appear, for example, in the small movie, K-11, directed by her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart. In that role, she will play a transexual named Butterfly.
Observes Brooks, "Ms. Stewart picks characters that are, almost without exception, difficult or damaged." Stewart gives her reasoning behind these choices, "It's not because I'm a miserable person or sad or whatever. The honest, complex roles tend to be serious."
It appears that, while the eyes of millions of fans watch Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan play out her romantic triangle with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner as Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, the eyes of the influential in Hollywood are staying trained on her craft and artistry, seeing potential for a long and serious career ahead of her.
