Ken Sharp, whose name will be familiar to readers of Beatlefan, Goldmine and other music publications, is the author of "Starting Over: The Making of Double Fantasy," to be published Oct. 19 by Simon & Schuster/MTV Books.
Sharp told us by email the book will be an oral history of the album told by the key principals involved. It will include new interviews with Yoko Ono, producer David Geffen, Jack Douglas, the session band, Rick Nielsen and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, engineers, record company personnel, photographers, including Annie Leibovitz and Bob Gruen, and members of the media who interviewed John and Yoko during their rounds to publicize the album.
The book will also feature photos and essays by David M. Spindel and Roger Farrington, who were there for the first day of the recording sessions. It will serve as a nice compliment to the release of the Lennon remasters and the celebrations of his 70th birthday. \

Boy, this is a lot of effort for such a mediocre album.
It is alot of effort!
Have you made any effort to publish any works? This is not about whether it was a mediocre album..(It was not)
This has more to do with John re entering the studio after 5 years. It has more to do with it being his last work.It has much to do with the remaining studio members/musicians and their recall and feelings. It has to be documented..or it will be lost for anyone interested.
I am interested any many others are..this book is for them.
A mediocre album is a mediocre album is a mediocre album. We shouldn't judge the value of a piece of work because of the tragedy of the artist's death. It should be judged on its own merits. And this album is NOT Lennon's best work, as the vast majority of reviews made clear at the time before we all put on rose-colored glasses.
Whatever the reviews said back then, the album has stood the test of time -- and that includes Yoko's tracks. It's no embarrassment to Lennon's legacy. What's sad is that he wasn't able to properly follow it up.
You are missing the point. This is a document of the work and goings on during his last album. You were the one critiquing the album. This represents 30 years his passing and that release. It is worth the effort..because it was his last..Not because it was critically acclaimed or not.I would love to hear the perspectives of those involved. Now we will. Many of the players went on to great things afterwards. It is not just Lennon's legacy that can be expressed.
Alot of people disliked the album when it first came out!
I enjoyed it more as time went on....but John would have done even better
things had he been around in the 80's and beyond.
You're correct. There was a lot of criticism of the album when it first came out, mostly because of Yoko. But her songs have held up quite well over time, in my opinion. I think it's a great album. Be very interesting to hear what stripped down versions they come up with.
was the session of certain songs really filmed. as far as the argument, i think its a good album. sucked half of it was Yoko, and you could tell John was trying to be hip.
