Lady Gaga and Iggy Pop among special guests announced for Yoko Ono's Los Angeles shows

Yoko Ono has announced that Lady Gaga and Iggy Pop, two pop personalities who, like Ono, have been controversial in their career, will be among the guest stars during her two nights of shows Oct. 1-2 concerts at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Iggy Pop will appear only on Oct. 1, while Lady Gaga will only appear Oct. 2.

Besides Iggy Pop, the Oct 1 show will also feature Nels Cline and Mike Watt, while Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore will appear along with Lady Gaga on Oct. 2.

The core band for both nights will feature Ono, Sean Lennon, Perry Farrell, Carrie Fisher, Vincent Gallo, RZA, Harper Simon, Tune-Yards, Yuka Honda, Haruomi Hosono and Cornelius.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster

Nothing like using the anniversary of John's murder to promote yourself. Typical. If she was truly interested in honoring John, she wouldn't have picked "pop personalities" who have nothing to do with John's style of music. She would have invited rock and roll singer-songwriters, artists influenced by John. But then that would ahve made the event about John, rather than about Yoko.

What are you talking about? These concerts are October 1 & 2. The anniversary of John Lennon's death is December 8. There's absolutely NO connection whatsoever! Yoko has done an incredible amount of work over the years to maintain John's legacy in the world of music and art. But Yoko is an artist and musician in her own right! And, whether or not you appreciate her work, she does have her fans including the major artists who are appearing with her. This isn't a concert of John's work. It's a concert of Yoko's work! John's name isn't even mentioned so I don't know how you come up with your statement that this concert is Yoko using John's murder to promote herself. Total lunacy!

In multiples articles, these concerts have been portrayed as "honoring John Lennon." Perhaps you should check your facts. And why, a week from his 70th birthday and the reissue of this CDS, does she decide to promote herself. She is using the spotlight of John's birthday to bring attention to herself. As usual.

  • Yoko's been doing concerts on her own for some time now. This is nothing new. As mentioned in other comments, she is an artist in her own right. I saw her concert in Oakland and reviewed it here: http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-national/review-yoko-ono-oakland-betw... . Having Lady Gaga only shows the influence Yoko has had. Bette Midler's appearance in New York was one of the highlights of that show. Much as I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, gotta give her props for appearing in L.A.

You have got to be kidding. Yoko is an artist unto herself. I grew up with the Beatles...I was 11 years old when the British Invasion happened, but I didn't stop listening to music in 1970 when they broke up. I saw Yoko's concerts in Brooklyn earlier this year...they were both incredible...and this concert has nothing to do with her promoting herself. She is celebrating her life and career and why shouldn't she? I have John's box set of cds pre-ordered and I already own all of Yoko's (as well as most of the original vinyls of both). I wish I could be at these October concerts, but I can't. Believe it or not there are people who know Yoko's work but who do not know John's.
