State Senator Sylvia Allen thinks planet is six thousand years old

Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen

This story has been circling the internet for days, but I still think it is worth talking about. Arizona State Senator, Sylvia Allen casually stated in a meeting that the Earth is 6000 years old. The part that I find most interesting is that she stated it casually. She wasn’t trying to advance Creationism or make some sort of commentary about fundamentalist Christianity vs. modern science.

No, Republican State Senator Allen seems to actually be oblivious to the controversy between Christian extremists and modern science with relation to the age of the Earth. Instead, she appears to be stating what she considers a well established fact. The really sad part is that she is almost certainly not the only politician who believes that the Earth is six thousand years old. While a State Senator is a pretty important public office, I have little doubt that there are State Senators across the country, US Congress people, and even US Senators who share State Senator Allen’s belief that the Earth is six thousand years old.

This is not necessarily an issue of Church/State Separation, but it is an issue of separating ignorant, scientifically illiterate people from the ranks of legislators and leaders. Quite honestly, legislators like State Senator Allen are an embarrassment to the nation. Not only that, but the people who voted her and others with similar ignorance into office are an embarrassment to all Americans.

In this particular case, the scientifically illiterate State Senator is trying to circumvent environmental laws which protect citizens from radioactive Uranium. She doesn’t realize that radioactive Uranium is dangerous because of her scientific ignorance. She doesn’t even care about the science of the situation. All she is focused on is money and her religious “Truths.”

I am not just holding State Senator Allen in contempt here. I think we need to send a clear message that no politician should allow their religious beliefs to inform them about science. The American people should also not allow scientific ignorance of this magnitude. We need to better educate our fellow Americans on how science works and what we have learned from science. Stupid people elect stupid leaders.

This Sylvia Allen excerpt has already brought out the cockroach from the woodwork. I hope the FBI gets on this death threat immediately. The people that elect the Sylvia Allens' of the world should not be taken lightly. Ignorance comes from poor education....they "ignore" the obvious and the factual accounts of educators specifically hired for their knowledge. Sylvia Allen reminds me of a friend who converted to Jehovah Witness and then pursued an education in biology. When I questioned her on the obvious, how do you get around the evolutionary demands of your educators?, she said: "Oh I just tell them what they want to hear and write what they want to read." In other words, she believed that she and her religion knew more than those appointed to educate her. I shudder to think of where she might hold a position at this date. So here we have Senator Sylvia Allen in a position of power with the knowledge of a goat herder in 1600 BC. Very scary.

    Regarding:
    "the age of the Earth"

"Many worldwide natural processes indicate an age for the earth of 10,000 years or less. These include population kinetics, influx of radiocarbon into earth’s atmosphere, absence of meteorites from the geologic column, and decay of earth’s magnetic field."

Because the foolishness of YHWH is wiser than men,and the weakness of YHWH is stronger than men. 1 Cor 1:25 Whence cometh then wisdom...? Job 28:20 The fear of YHWH is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction Prov 1:7 YHWH's word has 100% accuracy rate and science? Seems that the Senator is more educated than most !

The Bible relates the history of present man dating back 6000 yrs. Never does it claim that is the moment the earth was created. There is a wonderful book by Gerald L. Schroeder: The Science of God (The Convergence of Scientific and Biblical Wisdom) that discusses this colundrum from a scientific point of view. Another book by same author: The Hidden Face of God. If you had rather study, investigate, seek information instead of running your mouth like you had something to say, read.

follow-up: In many people's minds when they say the earth is 6000 yrs old they mistakenly believe it is understood the intended meaning, that is, that current man's history is 6000 yrs old. But, there are also those who don't realize their mistake.
