Zumba dance party helps find cure with LA Fitness

This year, LA Fitness has teamed up with Augie’s Quest and Zumba
Fitness to help find a cure for ALS! ALS is amyotrophic lateral disease,
more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS leads to complete
paralysis and survival is typically three to five years after diagnosis.
Currently, there is no cure for ALS.

Every year, around 5,600 people are diagnosed with ALS, affecting as many
as 30,000 Americans at any given time. In March 2005, a prominent leader
in the fitness industry, Augie Nieto, was diagnosed with ALS. He then
teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to create, “Augie’s
Quest,” a nonprofit initiative dedicated to curing Lou Gehrig’s Disease by
drawing support from other fitness industry leaders. Despite the limitations
of his disease, Augie still leads an active life participating in activities such
as scuba diving and snowmobiling.

On February 23, 2013 at 3:00 PM, LA Fitness will host Augie’s Quest
with Zumba Fitness classes nationwide, including all 35 locations in the
Chicago area! The event is open to anyone (members and nonmembers) for
a donation of $20. LA Fitness will donate all of the proceeds from the event
to Muscular Dystrophy Association’s ALS research initiative. Participants
receive an upbeat, culturally stimulating Zumba workout in exchange for
helping to find the much-needed cure for ALS. If you would like to get in a
great workout while helping to find the cure, donate here and find your local
LA Fitness at www.LAFitness.com.
