The rum is a blend of three to five marques of aged rum distilled five times from Angostura Distillery, further aged to marry flavors in charred oak barrels.
The color is dark brown with a hint of cherrywood. The nose suggests earthy vanilla, sherry, cigar box and caramel. Initial flavors of toffee, vanilla and brown sugar lead to a bouquet of dried fruits, oak and bittersweet cocoa. The finish is medium long, sweet and viscous.
Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year Old Estate Rum is the winner of numerous awards and a favorite among participants in various rum tasting events. The rich and bold flavors of the tropics are a delight to enjoy and the spirit is well balanced for those that prefer their aged rums on the sweet side.
Zaya is a private label rum brand developed by Infinium Spirits of California. The original version was produced in Guatemala. When production was changed to Trinidad, the master blender handcrafted the original recipe to be used with aged rum stocks from Trinidad in such a way as to keep the formula true to the original.

Just bought this in Florida on vacation. Really enjoyable. New to the world of aged rums - great to see your collection of articles. If you find yourself in Key West, there is a great bard called Speakeasy that has a 5 Rums for $20 deal - bartender took a lot of time with us, and we could choose any 5 rums.
