The recently opened Grille 620 in the newly developed Turf Valley Town Square boasts fresh, not frozen – they have no freezer. So the abbondanza of fresh seafood, especially the oysters, tuna, and octopus should be on your “must get items” although there are many other choices the likes of top-of-the-line Creekstone Farms beef and regional sourced produce.
The restaurant / bar opened its doors mid-October under the keen eye of the partners; Gabby Haddad, Ali Sadeghi and David Sadeghi who come to the table with years experience in the Ruth Chris Steak House organization. The fourth partner is Super Bowl winning linebacker, Adalius Thomas. Grille 620’s top toque is Fabio Mura who has a recent history with Ruth Chris Steak along with Chazz, A Bronx Original and La Famiglia.
A number of us media types were invited in for dinner and a close look-see and taste at the restaurant/bar. The restaurant is rich in dark tones, lots of wood, manly with a clubby feel yet casual. The bar area which hosts numerous tables was packed on that Wednesday night and we were there after their happy hour concluded. (Happy Hour: Monday through Fridays – 3 p.m. to 6:20 p.m.) For the beer enthusiasts they have 16 rotating taps. If your preference is top shelf or beer there are assorted libations, choices for everyone. If Grille 620 was close to where I worked I could see me popping in for happy hour and quality, fresh light snack – not the typical bar food like poppers and wings.
The Grille 620 dining room which is separated from the bar with a partition lacked linen tablecloths, keeping the feel casual. Our server was well informed on all the menu items, addressing our questions. Out of a table of seven, there were only two raw oyster eaters so we shared Grille 620’s offerings that day of Malbec, Chesapeake and Blue Point which came with mignonette and cocktails sauces.
A number of the appetizers were sent out on a sampling plate which brings me to Grille 620’s appetizer sampler that changes regularly. The evening we were there the sampler had hummus, tapenade and a tomato-mozzarella toppings for the accompanying toasted bread. The seafood sampler had a number of us commenting on the really fresh taste of the tuna tartar and those of us who ate octopus fell in love with its flavor, texture and accoutrements.
Similar to the Ruth Chris’s way of doing things, a selection of sides are extra but well portioned for 2-4 guests. We pretty much ran the gamut of what we chose; the crab cakes, bouillabaisse, steak, scallops, stuffed chicken and lamb chops. My scallops were cooked to perfection – just the right side of medium with a beautiful sear.
Like with the appetizers we received a sampler plate on the desserts; the dessert of the day – strawberry short cake along with Grille 620’s bread pudding and their adult version of s‘mores. I could be buried in the chocolate ganache that accompanied the s’mores – rich, decadent and did I say rich?
Open for dinner starting at 3 p.m. daily and soon to open for lunch
