A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, December 9, 2013
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” – Psalm 139:14
As God’s creation, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. These are two very powerful words that are used to describe God’s power made manifest in His workmanship, which is us. It is so sad that many people today are walking around depicting the very opposite of what God said we are —fearfully and wonderfully made. I once heard a preacher say that faith believes what God said. Do you have the faith to believe that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, family? God said it, so it must be true! God is not a man who should lie nor the son of man that He should repent or change His mind (Numbers 23:19).
The Hebrew word for “fearfully” as used in this verse is yare (pr. yaw-ray) which means “cause to frighten, be had in reverence” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). How can we be made to do both? We have been created in the image of the Creator. The Word of God declares that the demons tremble at His name (James 2:19). Since we have been created in the image of God; and when we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we have God’s Holy Spirit living within us, carrying His Glory, thus we frighten the demons! Too many of God’s children have this backwards by being afraid of demons when in truth, the demons should be afraid of us! They should run for cover when they see you or hear you coming!
We are also to be a living, breathing, and walking example of respect and honor, which is what reverence means according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary. We should be above reproach, and conduct ourselves as the ambassadors that we have been called to be for God (2 Corinthians 5:20). After all, we are God’s accomplishment. The Hebrew word for “made” is asah (pr. aw-saw) which means “accomplish, bring forth, sacrifice, serve.”
We have been brought forth to bring forth the glory of God into a dark world. We are to be a living sacrifice, wholly and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service (Romans 12:1). Who better to serve as a living sacrifice, than those who have been redeemed through the Atoning Sacrifice of the Son, Jesus Christ? Who better to lead the lost to the Lamb, who has taken away the sins of the world (John 1:29)?
We are marvelous beings. God created us to be marvelous! The Hebrew word for “wonderfully” is palah (pr. paw-law) meaning “to literally or figuratively distinguish, show marvelous, set apart.” Say this with me: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I am marvelous!” Now say it again. Say it louder and louder until it gets in your spirit! We have been made with distinction, cut from the cloth of diplomats, and set apart as God’s handiwork.
As sons and daughters of the Most High King, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and this is something to praise God for! To “praise” as used here is yadah (pr. yaw-daw) which is “to hold out the hand, to throw a stone or an arrow at or away, to revere or worship with extended hands, to thank.” We praise the living God as a form of worship and gratitude; but we also praise the King of kings and Lord of lords, because it is a weapon of warfare against the devil and his demons!
Praise causes the enemy to scatter (Psalm 68), praise is our weapon which pelts the devil and his rag-tag crew with stones and arrows that causes them to disperse like cockroaches, and dismantles their weapons and strategies against us. The Word of God declares “No weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every lying tongue that rises up against us we shall silence (Isaiah 54:17). We thwart and destroy weapons formed, and silence the accuser through our praise to the Father because He made us to be feared by the enemy and to be a living manifestation of God’s reverence.
Are you feeling powerless, my brother? Do you feel invisible and marginalized, my sister? Then begin to praise the Lord your God because you believe what God says about you — that you are fearfully and wonderfully made! And as you praise Him, what will come forth is the marvelous creation that God formed you to become before He laid the foundation of the world.
Father, thank You that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Most loving God, we call on You to minister to each of us in a new way on this day. We call forth a release of Your sweet fragrance, Your Holy Spirit, into our spirits, and encourage each of us in the way we uniquely need to be uplifted. In Jesus Name, we thank You that today is a new day for us because we now realize and recognize that we have been fearfully and wonderfully made. Amen and Amen!
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to believe what God said concerning you. Choose to rebuke, bind, and cast off depression, oppression, low self esteem, meager self-confidence, and the loss of identity; and instead, bring forth what God spoke into you causing every defeating thought to scatter! And continue to fight the good fight of confidently knowing who you are in Jesus Christ; for God, your Born Identity, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
