Brand new WWE WrestleMania 30 rumors in 2014 have popped up, thanks to wrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper on Twitter. Recent tweets from Piper have been teasing a potential return to the ring not only for "Rowdy" himself, but also from his pal Hulk Hogan who he feuded with back in the WWF. Could Roddy Piper vs. Hulk Hogan be among the big matches for the 2014 WrestleMania?
The LA Times reported on Jan. 12 that Roddy Piper has pitched a tag-team matchup for the upcoming WrestleMania set to take place in New Orleans in early April. The match proposed has Piper teaming up with CM Punk against Hulk Hogan and John Cena. There's rumors and reports that an "internal discussion" about this match has taken place, but Hogan might have trouble passing a required physical in order to get back in the ring.
Despite that damper on things, Roddy has been tweeting up a storm about the possibilities. It could be in an attempt to bait Hogan or stir up the fans to make the match happen. Among his tweets have been:
"I KNOW SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW!! When you find out your going to love IT!!!! Take a guess!! THIS IS NOT A TEST, THIS IS REAL WORLD!"
Piper also tweeted on Jan. 10:
"Dare you to put Hogan vs Piper! Separate the men from the Boys!"
Piper, real name Roderick Toombs, is currently 59-years-old, and wrestled as part of a 3-on-1 handicap match against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania XXV in 2009. That appearance made for his first time wrestling at a pay-per-view since WrestleMania XII in 1996. Piper had previously partnered with Ric Flair to win the World Tag team championship, which was added to his title history along with his 1-time reign as WWF Intercontinental champ back in 1992.
For Hulk Hogan, he's now 60-years-old and worked with TNA Wrestling from 2009 through 2013. Hogan's contract expired last year and he was written off the show after refusing to be a business partner with TNA president Dixie Carter. As for WrestleMania appearances, Hogan is famous for his epic clashes at Mania including the "slam heard 'round the world" with Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III back in 1987. Hogan was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame back in 2005 by Sylvester Stallone, and also enjoyed a classic match against "The Rock" at WrestleMania X8.
Back in 1985, Piper and Hogan squared off in the ring in a tag match where Piper teamed up with "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and Hogan partnered with boxing celebrity Mr. T in the ring. Piper recently appeared on an "Old School" episode of WWE Raw last Monday which had him interviewing The Shield in the ring and talking about CM Punk as part of the ongoing feud between the wrestlers. It's unknown if Piper will appear as part of the upcoming Royal Rumble in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as of this report.
