Have you ever read the Proverbs? I mean have you really read the Proverbs?
It is sort of like reading a thousand bumper stickers—ok, some of you don’t know what a bumper sticker is. It is sort of like reading a thousand Facebook posts back to back. There is one exception. These witty sayings all must be somehow tied to wisdom.
There are no, “Cute kid” posts.
There are no, “Love the vacation pics posts.”
There are just thought upon thought of how to live a wise and godly life.
Most of these come in some sort of parings. Occasionally, you might pick up a theme among several consecutive proverbs.
Often these tidbits of wisdom jump from the personal to the general to the powerful to the humble in just a few lines.
It is sort of like the way most of us men are with the remote. We go from the basketball game to the hunting channel to the grunting in your garage channel to Duck Dynasty and then to the hockey highlights, pausing for more than 30 seconds only if there is a highlight reel running or a new and humorous beer commercial.
It usually drives our wives and girlfriends crazy, but that’s half the fun.
The proverbs are sort of like that so get ready to experience pieces of wisdom on just about everything. Some of these proverbs come up many times in various places with only a slight twist in the wording.
I suggest that you read a few proverbs, meditate upon them, and then read these commentaries.
Wisdom awaits you.
One last warning. Do not do this as an academic exercise. If you do not revere God, you will not understand his wisdom. That said, if you have not decided to follow Jesus, save this reading for another day.
Only those who truly revere God will benefit from the reading and receiving of his wisdom.
OBTW—there are a few wisdom articles at the end that don’t exactly fit the mold.
