Women’s Promises for International Women’s Day

Imagine being a grown woman in 1908.What would you have been doing; raising children, working in a garment factory, typing in someone’s office and getting the men coffee?

Ask yourself; would you have marched with 15,000 others through the streets of New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay, and voting rights?

Can you even imagine not having the right to vote?

Perhaps you would have been home tending children, maybe many children, maybe even more youngsters than you could really handle by yourself. Would you have ever thought about being in charge of your own body to decide about your procreative rights?

And how would the men in your life been about women’s rights? Would they have encouraged or discouraged you from speaking out?

STOP and THINK: what would you have done and who would have influenced you?

And think about today. On March 8 every year there are thousands of events to inspire women and celebrate what has already been accomplished. Businesses are responding too. Just check out Google’s logo on its search page. Millions, billions are aware of the inequities and are willing to stand and speak about them.

We’ve come a long way!

So, join in, male or female. All the battles have NOT been won. Women still lag behind men in equal pay and even more importantly violence against women is still front and center.

Now is your time, if you helped back in the past, step forward now. Be strong, be GUTSY, and give voice to help make positive change happen.
