Today Jan. 16, 2014 Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast officially confirmed recent reports of a "Magic: The Gathering" movie with 20th Century Fox in a press release on There won't be just one movie, but an entire "series of films" with Simon Kinberg of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" as the franchise’s "creative steward."

"The rumors are true! We're working with Fox on a Magic: The Gathering movie franchise! Exciting!," exclaimed the senior director of global brand strategy and marketing for "Magic: The Gathering" Elaine Chase in a tweet.

"Magic: The Gathering" currently has more than "12 million players and fans worldwide" and is Hasbro’s "number one game brand."

According to a prepared statement by Hasbro Studios’ president Stephen Davis in the official press release:

Magic: The Gathering today offers serialized entertainment on a variety of platforms including books, comics and globally popular digital and card games so the property is naturally suited to a series of films based on fantastic fan favorite stories from the past as well as new stories in development. We look forward to working with the creative team at Twentieth Century Fox, the talented Simon Kinberg and the Genre Films team to bring this franchise to the big screen and we’re confident Magic: The Gathering fans around the world will be thrilled with what we have in store for them.

Hasbro's CEO Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis, and Wizards of the Coast's CEO Greg Leeds will "produce the franchise together with Genre Films execs Aditya Sood and Josh Feldman."

Many questions remain, such as what storyline the movies will follow. Will they be existing story arcs or brand new ones? Will they tie in with upcoming sets, be based on current planeswalkers like Jace, the Mindsculptor, or introduce new characters?

Regardless of what stories are told one thing is certain: With Wizards of the Coast's parent company Hasbro a world leading toy maker we can expect a line of action figures and possibly many other "Magic: The Gathering" products.
