The Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation has found another target for their jihad against nativity scenes. This time, they are going after the city of Warren, Michigan.
MyFoxDetroit.com reports the group is threatening a lawsuit if the city does not permit them to post an anti-Christian message next to a nativity scene at city hall.
One side of the sign reads:
"At this season of the Winter Solstice, let reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."
"STATE/CHURCH: Keep Them Separate," reads the opposite side.
According to WJBK's Taryn Asher, the atheists claim they are being discriminated against, and Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has allegedly ignored their request.
"If he continues to do so they [FFRF] promise legal action," Asher wrote.
FFRF member Douglas Marshall argues that if the city allows a nativity scene, they must also allow other religious viewpoints as well.
The organization has targeted 12 nativity scenes for extermination this year. Last weekend, 5,000 rallied in support of a similar scene in Athens, Texas.
After the group threatened Henderson County with a lawsuit, one official vowed to fight "until hell freezes over." The Texas Attorney General stepped in and offered to help the county fight the FFRF. Attorney General Abbot's message to the FFRF was clear: "Don't mess with Texas."
"Following the deluge of bizarre scenarios, it’s going to be tough for critics to contend that the “War on Christmas” is merely a figment of believers’ imaginations," wrote Billy Hallowell of The Blaze.
