The Winter Olympics 2014 live stream and TV schedule brings Men’s Hockey to the latest slate of events as Team USA looks to start their path towards a gold medal. Just recently, starting goalies were announced for both the United States and Canada in their upcoming first matchups of qualifying play in Sochi. The televised and live stream Winter Olympics coverage will be presented via various NBC sources as the games continue.
According to an ESPN.com article from Feb. 12, the American team named Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings to start as goalie against Slovakia when Team USA takes the ice on Thursday (7:30 a.m. EST, NBCSN). Ryan Miller and Jimmy Howard will serve as his backups in the net. Meanwhile, Canada has announced they will start Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price for their game against Norway (12 p.m. EST, USA).
Quick, who was a silver medalist at the 2010 Winter Olympics, also won the Stanley Cup championship in 2012 with the Kings. He said of receiving the start in 2014 for Team USA at Sochi:
"I'm fortunate for the opportunity. And I'll just try to make the most of it."
The 2014 Team USA roster is compromised of many NHL talents in addition to quick, including Patrick Kane of the reigning NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks, Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as Ryan Suter and Zach Parise of the Minnesota Wild. Several of Kane’s teammates from the Blackhawks will be on the opposing Slovakia side including Marian Hossa and Michal Handzus. The team is captained by Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins.
Men's hockey opens with several games on Wednesday afternoon. Sweden will play the Czech Republic, while Switzerland and Latvia also are scheduled to play. On Thursday, Finland vs. Austria will be live on NBCSN and live stream at 3 a.m. EST, while Canada vs. Norway will be on USA and live stream at 12 p.m. Noon EST. Team USA plays Slovakia on Thursday starting at 7:30 a.m. EST on NBCSN for TV coverage and live online at the Olympics site. SB Nation reports that Team USA is a 6/1 favorite to win the gold medal. Canada, Russia and Sweden are all above them in terms of their chances to capture gold. Russia is a -200 favorite to win Group A, while the Americans are +175 to finish at the top of the group. Meanwhile, the United States are a -325 favorite to defeat Slovakia on Thursday.
