“This target shoots back,” the click-through ad at the top of the MyFoxMaine.com news page tells us, inviting viewers to watch the season premiere of “Human Target” with its action hero protagonist, guns in each hand blazing.
How exciting!
And the “Top News Story,” directly under the banner?
Virginia Tech Shooting Survivor Speaks in Portland
It’s Colin Goddard, on his mission to spread the gospel of citizen disarmament (see sidebar video). Except that’s not what he calls it:
"If you say the word gun control, it's the big horrible word," Goddard said. "But if you break it down to the specifics of well, how about background checks... people say, 'Oh yeah that sounds reasonable. I can support that.'"
What Goddard doesn’t mention is his assailant had passed background checks and even waited the 30 days required by Virginia law to purchase his second gun. What Goddard also doesn’t say is the new edicts he’s stumping for will have about as much a chance at stopping “illegal” gun sales among the vocational criminal class as current requirements to buy controlled substances through a pharmacist do at curbing street drug sales.
Here’s what else he doesn’t disclose when he talks about what merits popular “support”: What other “gun control” edicts are waiting in the wings that he would present as “reasonable” and go after if he can establish a new beachhead and momentum? Or put another way, how would he respond if you asked him what’s enough? Let’s follow his advice and “break it down to the specifics.”
Does he favor ending “Gun Free Zones” like Virginia Tech, to accommodate those of us who refuse to be “human targets”?
Does he support the right of the people to keep and bear arms? Concealed carry? Open carry?
What is Colin Goddard’s position on “assault weapons” and "Saturday Night Specials"?
Or licensing and registration?
Or…?
Something else Goddard didn’t disclose is that he is a paid spokesman, a “Brady staff member” on a funded mission that includes appearing on “Oprah”, evidently to secure solidarity with don’t-know-any-better sob-sisters who vote.
And that professional relationship is relevant information MyFoxMaine Brady publicist-for-a-day Giovanna Bechard didn’t find out for us, despite her assurance that she was “reporting live.” There was no reporting in this talking point-parroting free infomercial, either from Bechard or the sympathetic newsreader who introduced her act. There was no indication of that favorite disdainful charge of “progressives”: Fox News being “conservative.” Lacking the most basic of disclosures, and any hint that some might have opposing views with what was being unquestioningly presented, there was absolutely none of that “fair and balanced” nonsense Fox would have us believe they stand for, as if a marketing slogan is all you need to establish trust.
But hey, make sure you tune in at 8:00 pm on Nov. 17. Now that looks like a ”Human Target” who wouldn’t emerge from Virginia Tech a professional victim hitting the Oprah circuit! Too bad it’s so unbelievable and fantastic—I mean, I’ve never watched the show but looked it up and saw it’s supposed to be “San Francisco-based.”
You know, Brady Human Target Paradise West.

"Fox News" is a conservative channel on cable and satellite. "The local news show on various over-the-air broadcast Fox affiliates" is just more of the same TV news you'd get on any other channel.
Mr. Goddard reminds me rather starkly of those who actually survived the concentration camps of WWII - and then went on to support all sorts of totalitarian government and disarmament here.
Really makes you wonder...
Do we have a Stockholm syndrome victim here? Maybe this is the only way he can cash in on a tragedy that he was lucky enough to survive by trying to deny you the right to self defense and that will in some twisted way justify what happened to him. But whatever the reason for him saying what he does we all know it is a carefully planned out promotional scenario under the guise of news reporting. That is typical of Fox news and if you look at who owns Fox news and where he comes from it should not surprise anyone. Take for what it really is, garbage, wrap it up in newspaper with the fishheads and throw it in the garbage where the smell belongs.
You're on the right track, jrp. However, Stockholm Syndrome requires a perception of captivity and the inability to process it in a healthy fashion.
This is more of a trauma closer to survivor guilt mixed with grief.
But, yer right. He's going after everyone who didn't do the shooting as a substitution for the abiity to process the reality.
Probably egged on by Bradys who also do not care who they hurt in the process.
Gun control is not the only issue where the "liberals" or "progressives" miss the boat. In the angst filled cry of "But we have to DO something", they leave out the most important word: "effective". Some let them off the hook and say they want to be judged on their emotions and efforts, but not their results. I think it goes deeper, especially for the "progressives". Progressives don't care if their gun control efforts will have any positive effect on crime stats, they want civilian disarmament and the wailing about crime is just a smokescreen to enlist what Lenin called "useful fools".
BTW, contrary to what you read in the press, there is a very real difference between a liberal and a progressive. Progressives feel they are smarter than the rest of us and must force or con us into their way. To them, if we adopt their agenda willingly it only proves they are not forcing us down their road fast enough.

If morality had anything to do with progressive agenda we would have a different USA.
Their's is a morality shaped by twisted beliefs borne out of misguided and misinformed notions that what they are striving for is a better world for all as long as they get to set the rules for all except themselves.
After all there has to be someone to rule, and rulers cannot be hampered by rules for the common folk like you and me.
What they do not realize is that if they win and get their wish, most of them would be common folk and subject to all of the rules that make UTOPIA so great for the masses.

I know people refer to this type of reaction by a victim has the Stockholm Syndrome but I don’t know if it’s the Stockholm Syndrome or a just similar version of the syndrome.
I know the victims of the German concentration camps are normally vehemently anti-gun which is ironic because in the end it was a few victims/people over coming their fear that stopped some of the mass deaths.
Background checks are not gun control. You see, it depends on what your definitiion of the word "is" is. And I swear I did not have sex with that woman either.
Remember when we had government officials we could trust, and gun control consisted of putting your shots where they were supposed to go?

Pete Shields was the second president of what is now the Brady Campaign. He dedicated the latter part of his life to gun control because his son was murdered in San Francisco in 1974. The killers were black radical Muslims out to kill whitey and anyone else who was handy. They used a .32 Beretta, a machete, and a meat cleaver to kill over a dozen people (Wikipedia - Zebra Murders). Shields could not bring himself to oppose Muslims or blacks but he sure did hate that Beretta. Never a word about who killed his son or why he was killed but he worked endlessly to make sure you and I are as defenseless as his son was. Oddly enough he had no problem with machetes or meat cleavers. Colin is being groomed to be the next Pete Shields. Note how Colin is fighting individual sales despite the fact that the shooter at Virginia Tech went through licensed dealers. And I am..... E. Zach Lee-Wright
Goddard is one of those dispicable people that would allow the slaughter of many innocent people by disarming them which makes them easy prey for tyrants & criminals.
