Are you, or do you know someone, stuck in a “why me” mode? We’ve all been there at some time or another in our life. It is a pretty rough state of being. Anyone who knows your story will probably say, “You do not deserve the hardship that you have been plagued with, after all you didn’t ask to be a victim.” According to TheFreeDictionary.com victim is defined as, “An unfortunate person who suffers from some adverse circumstance.” And, I am sure after all of your suffering (which no one is doubting) you are entitled to feel victimized. You fit the profile but wallowing in the trenches of victimization for any real length of time does not serve you well.
So, in this very moment, it is time to say, “Enough is enough, today I am taking back my power!”
How can you step out of this state of helplessness and back into a productive world? Empower yourself by moving the tragedy from a current day scenario into your past. You must flex your world to accept whatever it is you have been through, as horrible as it was, feel it, be okay (for now) with the scar it has left and then release it into your past where it needs to stay.
Yes, you are different. How can you figure out how to live with this difference? Stop fighting and surrender; you can’t change the past. Just to clarify, this doesn’t mean you welcome tragedy or you deserved it, and yes life is unfair at times, it just means you are finished letting this horrible experience continue to victimize you.
In the article, Trials Should Make Us Better Not Bitter, Amy Anderson talks about a life testimony of a “twenty-something” girl; she was both blind and deaf. She overcame her diversity powered by perspective.
In her words, “Many of us spend our lives thinking why me? Why is my life hard? Why do I have to suffer loss? Why, why, why?... I too, wake up each day and ask why me? Why am I so lucky to have ten fingers and ten toes? Why am I so lucky to have people that love me? Why am I so lucky to be able to walk? Why am I so blessed?”
Count your blessings; with practice this will diminish anything taking your power.
