Why Dunham thanked Lowe: Lena thanks Chad Lowe at Golden Globes

If you watched the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday and wondered why Lena Dunham thanked Chad Lowe during her acceptance speech, you’re not alone.

In a bizarre moment that threw everyone in attendance (and at home) for a loop, Lena Dunham thanked Lowe on stage following her win for Best Television Comedy (“Girls”).

And nobody knows why. Until now.

Back in 2000, Chad Lowe was married to actress Hilary Swank. When Swank won Best Actress for the movie “Boy Don’t Cry,” she went on stage to accept her award.

But with millions of viewers watching, including her then husband Chad, Swank proceeded to thank every single person associated to the film and her career.

Except Chad Lowe.

With Dunham being a comedienne, she wanted to bring the Lowe omission to the forefront at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Asked why she thanked Lowe at the press room, she responded, “because Hillary Swank forgot. And because I'm an a*****e."

Chad Lowe then responded to Dunham’s very public joke by tweeting Dunham and writing “YOU COMPLETE ME.”

Lena Dunham’s “Girls” stars on HBO. It completed it first season on air in 2012, with its second season getting underway this month.
