5 Reasons why 'Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013' for iPad will be 'Magic'

Wizards of the Coast and Stainless Games' upcoming "Magic: The Gathering" video game "Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013" is headed for iPad. Bringing the game to this new platform will be "Magic" for the franchise due to five key reasons.

Unprecedented Player Growth
With approximately 67 million iPads currently available worldwide and another estimated 56 million to be sold by the end of 2012, "Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013" could penetrate a market of 123 million. For comparison, the Nintendo Wii has only sold 70.93 million units since its 2006 debut. This is an extremely large demographic of potential new customers not only for "Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013" but for "Magic: The Gathering" too. With integration between "Magic 2013" and "Planechase (2012 Edition)," it is easier than ever for a new player to set down the digital version and to pick up and begin playing paper "Magic."

The Controller
The iPad's touchscreen lends itself naturally to playing “Magic: the Gathering.” In “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” you'll be able to tap your lands before tapping the spell you want to cast. Getting a look at an opponent's card can be a complicated chore when playing “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012” on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 because you have to cycle through each card on the battlefield one by one. That just simply won't be the case when you're able to tap any permanent in “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” for iPad to zoom in on it.

The Visuals
The “New iPad” has a stunning resolution that allows each “Magic: The Gathering” card in “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” to display at full size. In fact, if Wizards of the Coast provides Stainless Games with high resolution imagery for each card then the pictures could theoretically look better (and bigger) than a real “Magic: The Gathering” card when you zoom in on it.

Online Play, Anywhere
In addition to allowing players to connect over WIFI, users with a 3G or 4G enabled iPad will be able to play “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” anywhere on Earth they have service. Think about it. You'll be able to play “Magic” while being a passenger in a car, bus, or train. Stuck in an airport because of a delay? “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” has you covered. People have already played “Magic” in some strange places, and “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013” will make that list grow.

Lots of Download Content
"Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012" is currently available in a gold bundle, which includes the major content expansion "Ascend Into Darkness" along with the deck packs one, two, and three. In an interview with "Magic: The Gathering" brand manager Adam Dixon, Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that there will be plenty of DLC for “Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013.”

It is without question that "Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013" will be "Magic" for Wizards of the Coast. Will you buy it?
