In spite of the furor of controversy that ensued when it was reported that a CIA operative, Edward Snowden, had leaked information proving that the U.S. government is illegally spying on multimillions of citizens without a warrant or court approval, the illegal activity that violates the protected rights of Americans has only continued.
National Intelligence Director James Clapper lied to Congress about the snooping. Eric Holder also lied. And Barack Obama has lied on multiple occasions in public statements concerning the surveillance program, which he insists is aimed at "foreign terrorists."
Yet Obama's claims do not square with the facts. The classified information released to the press by Snowden shows beyond doubt that the NSA and its top secret court, the FISA court, has illegally spied on at least 100 million Americans who are not even suspected of crimes.
To add insult to injury, the Associated Press reported today that the NSA not only spied on Americans illegally but confiscated the email communication between American citizens who are not suspected of crimes. At least 56,000 emails were retained by the agency between citizens who do not have any connection at all with overseas terrorists.
Further, the NSA has demonstrated that it can spy on 75 percent of Internet communication between citizens. Domestic phone calls made between American citizens via the Internet have also been monitored and their contents retained...all without a warrant or court approval.
The very fact that NSA is conducting such broad based surveillance without the proper warrants and without court approval means that its activity is entirely illegal.
The White House, the Supreme Court, and Congress have known about this illegal spying program for months. Yet nothing, absolutely nothing has been done to stop it.
This begs the question, when government agencies operate outside the boundaries of the law and the Constitution, is there no recourse for the people except to acquiesce? Is it useless to expect Congress to do anything about it?
Who, therefore, in America today is capable of putting a stop to illegal activity being conducted by our own government? The Framers of the Constitution delineated the remedy, yet it is not being followed. So what then?
What happens when the rule of law is totally ignored by the very ones in government charged with making sure it is followed? Are the citizens consigned to placing themselves totally at the mercy of such lawlessness?
Who will rise up and bring the perpetrators of this tyranny to justice?
Snowden is the least of our worries in the current scenario. The most dangerous persons in the country today are the politicians and their lackeys, and by extension their financiers, who not only allow such gross violations of the Constitution to take place but refuse to do anything to stop it.
If our elected officials in Washington do not do their sworn duty to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution, then what good are they? And what good is a Supreme Court that silently watches the tyranny become entrenched yet issues no directive demanding that it be stopped? And what good is a president who not only looks away but claims that the plain truth never happened?
It has come to the point to where the entire federal government is a sham. And until someone, somewhere emerges to stop its blatant tyranny, then more and more citizens are going to ignore the laws that proceed from its secretive chambers in Washington.
