Who loves karaoke?

Karaoke shows keep popping up everywhere in South Florida. Bars, restaurants, car shows, private clubs and even at condo association events. Who are these people who can’t seem to get enough karaoke, and why do they enjoy it so much?

Facebook fans will find numerous karaoke events listed every week, and many attend several shows on a weekly basis. Is it really that much fun to sing in front of friends and strangers? Apparently for many it is a lot of fun and for many who don’t actually participate; it seems to be a very enjoyable way to spend an evening. Many fans of karaoke simply come to shows to listen to, and cheer for their favorite singers.

The popularity of reality TV shows such as the Voice and American Idol has stimulated many talented people to step up to the microphone and demonstrate their talent. Anyone who has attended karaoke shows in the past might remember hearing more sour notes than their ears could appreciate. But, today’s karaoke singers are a new breed who seem to know their voices and the songs they choose, and are not afraid to show the crowd what they can do.

Karaoke singers come to shows prepared; many bring their own karaoke music and most rehearse their songs before or during shows. Some of today’s karaoke hosts have sound systems that surpass most of the best live bands and this allows singers to sound truly professional if their talent is at that level.

Karaoke singers are school teachers, policemen, doctors, fast food workers, businessmen and women, housewives, husbands and children. One thing they all have in common is a desire to perform, and when they have talent, the crowds go wild.

It does take some courage to sing in front of friends and strangers, but the reward can be very satisfying.
